Pro Cycling Discussion 2016

Indeed, if his running doesn't endear him to the naysayers I don't know what will, his absolute desire to just get to the end no matter what! Rather than giving up as we have seen from so many before. Shows how much it means to him and his spirit.

Yeah if he goes on to win the tour that video of him running will likely be played ad nauseam come SPOTY time... Shame it's an olympic year or he would have been a strong favourite.

Just seen the highlights. What a shambles. Between the fans and the motorbikes something has got to be done. I guess it was somewhat inevitable when you had another 6km worth of people crowding on to the lower slopes. I mean, if you've travelled all the way to vonteux you'd be buggered if you weren't gonna watch it from somewhere. Still, the judges made the right decision, I think.

Other observations:

Quintana sucked, getting dropped hard.
Froome has matching yellow gloves. Not cool.

Yeah I thought that about the gloves! But also surprised with Quintana. Slightly disappointed. Was looking for a bit of direct competition in the mountains for Froomey.

If he does the same as last year, he'll really come alive near the end, so should be more interesting, hopefully. Seemed promising when he made some attacks today but then Valverde had to drag him up!

I keep wondering if its all part of the plan....but sooner or later he has to put some serious time into Froome.

Looking at yesterday, he just didn't seem to have the legs, and is holding on for a recovery. Can't see it though, looks like he could have something wrong with him.

Movistar coming out well, saying yesterday it's all part of racing whilst the day before they were moaning about how dangerous the stage was....

And in all that, Gerrans broke his collarbone in his accident, but can't seem to find anything out on Stannard.

The tree lined section of Ventoux looked particularly narrow which must have multiplied the problem losing 6km off the top. I think there will have to be a rethink about mountain stages and limit them to the wider roads because you see plenty of stages with steep climbs where the roads are wider than we saw yesterday.

The footage I saw was Stannard bent double but st least upright and not clutching anything, so maybe he just got the wind knocked out of him.

In reality I suspect nothing will happen!

Bet Froome is wishing there was a CX stage added after yesterday :D

Then again, little was different from when the tour went through the Peak District a few years ago. Could have happened there, could have happened anywhere I suppose.

Suspect today's wind will work against little Quintana more than it will Froome. Reckon Mollema might turn out to be CF's biggest challenger over the coming days - looked very strong yesterday.
