I'd be inclined to say that the PC gaming wise (graphically) has already surpassed what the PS3 & 360 have shown IMO

Out of the 3 press conferences (Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony) the game that I thought looked the best graphically was Crysis

Fair comment but remember the programming behind the pc has been going on for years with additional layers being implemented every now and then (admittedly this is a VERY basic view) it will take time for the dev teams to get the most out of both consoles, but in about 3 years time I would reckon they will be at their peak (going on normal life span of consoles being about 4 - 5 years)

Two things I would like to try and query in regards to this comment?

1) Surely the ps3 is as much a hidef unit as sky HD, it all depends on what source you feed it (sky hd box will still be showing standard def channels also) - and how you attach it to your display. Ok so they could market it as an HD compatible / HD capable unit - but even that muddies the water even more in my opinion, dont you think???

2)Blue Ray is by default a hidef medium , so if this player is a standard part of the ps3 - which it certainly is - and the right output sockets are there - which they are, what is wrong with calling it an "HD output device"? This is exactly what it IS.

Worst case scenario is that IF HDCP is required for all movies on Blue Ray, Sony being a movie studio along with the producer of the PS3 would have to release a firmware / bios upgrade after initial release, and then its upto every individual punter whether they use a standard tv with normal resolution or pay out for HiDef versions and use PS3 as it was designed.

Cant really see any arguement myself with the PS3 NOT being HD output myself, but more than willing to listen to reasoned arguement if anyone thinks otherwise

Frank listen, HDCP is standard on all blu-ray/hddvd players, studios can not decide to have it on the disc or not, it is a method to fight piracy (supposedly) anyways the cheaper PS3 model does not support HDMI at all, full stop it has been removed from the hardware of the machine and all the firmware updates of the day won't help that. So yes while it will still play hi-def games it will not play hi-def video from blu-ray discs as HDCP is part of the content protection standard that sony put in place themselves when designing blu-ray format.

Also people thinking that the prices for 360 premium+360HDDVD player will be close to PS3 fail to see that due to the longer time ms have been producing hardware for sale then production costs come down, meaning price drop will be inevitable for the premium + core packages, this will probably announced to coincide with PS3 release, so new price of console + plus subsidised HDDVD drive will still make it cheaper to buy both and still undercut PS3 premium, probably more in line with PS3 core package.

And for goodness sake fdxd please stop using PS3 propoganda as the gospel truth, PS3 does not have better graphics or anything else.....like wait for the BS eh dual HDMI, blu-ray video play back as standard, wi-fi as standard and for ingame footage I hve seen more for the DS than for PS3 and for the record GTHD video was truly rubbish as they said it was GT4 ported to PS3 played at a higher def, sony are trying to take us for fools and I truly feel sorry for the hardcore fanboy blinded by sony lies who can't see that the asking price for the console is not worth it, bring the price down to 360 levels and your doing much better.

Has sony made any comments regarding DVI? Is it not possible that the core PS3 will have this and an optical cable for its signal outputs?

I cant see (well actually I can) sony being so stupid as to not include the capability to watch films on their low end models at HD resolution. It would simply be a shot to the foot as consumers realise they have been conned.

I was under the impression that the GT HD video was just to show the PS3 off a bit, it won't actually be released looking anything like that?

Well let's just say it didn't really show it off well now did it?, it was a poor tech demo to say the least.

Why don't we wait until some PS3 games are actually released before we start slagging them off

The Sony bashing is getting well tedious

getting tedious? its been tedious since before the last E3.
I am slowly trying to exept that these forums are biased to the 360, probably as it stems from a lot of PC users. They assume PS users machines will be bought by there parents also, which i dont really think is the case as those kids are xbox generation, PS generation has been going for what, 10/12 years now? thats the folk who depend on the brand not 12 year olds.
most folk i know who have 2 kids the older one usually favours the PS and the younger is more xbox, quite a few folk in my work this is the case.

True, 'getting' was a big understatement :) It's already got there and has gone into overdrive.

Yep I've seen a few patronising comments about 'little Timmy' or his parents who will buy a PS3 only because they are idiots. It does get a bit boring :)

Not being funny, but the same could be said about you and your comments relating to the framerates of games you have never played ;)

It could, but less fairly seeing as the games are released and I don't have to have played it to know what 30fps looks like compared to 60. And I don't make those comments in here very often any more due to the flaming I receive from people over-defensive of their games console ;)

^^ Yep this is so true maybe some PS3 fanboys are just upset that the truth hurts lol

So far sony havent had that good a E3 and have hardly shown any WOW factor games for release add that to the High cost of the machine and its looking poor from the sony camp

i think people are just fed up with sony promising everything and delivering nothing

Nope, but you do have to play them to know what the game feels like, which is one aspect you cant take anyone else's word or opinion for.

Anyway, going round in circles and all that...

The point of the slagging was not due to the fact that it was PS3, the fact was that if it had been a 360 demo then I would be saying just the same. It was a really poor show from sony trying to palm off on us that GTHD represents the future.....ah ha yeah sony a port of PS2 code displayed at higher res with no other real improvements of course it will run at 60fps nothing much to work it hard and at some points parts of the track and scenery were jumping in to view all of a sudden ( track barriers etc ) so it is hardly running at 60fps very well. Yeah of course wait until full games are finished and released before slagging them off ( if needs be ) but from what we have seen sony deserve it, as for brand loyalty why bother you should be looking for the one that represents best value for money with new features and not copycat of it's competitiors, sony are stale, lazy and offering nothing new for extremely high prices.
