The point of the slagging was not due to the fact that it was PS3, the fact was that if it had been a 360 demo then I would be saying just the same. It was a really poor show from sony trying to palm off on us that GTHD represents the future.....ah ha yeah sony a port of PS2 code displayed at higher res with no other real improvements of course it will run at 60fps nothing much to work it hard and at some points parts of the track and scenery were jumping in to view all of a sudden ( track barriers etc ) so it is hardly running at 60fps very well. Yeah of course wait until full games are finished and released before slagging them off ( if needs be ) but from what we have seen sony deserve it, as for brand loyalty why bother you should be looking for the one that represents best value for money with new features and not copycat of it's competitiors, sony are stale, lazy and offering nothing new for extremely high prices.

Hmm I dunno but that definitely looks like Sony bashing ;)

^^ Yep this is so true maybe some PS3 fanboys are just upset that the truth hurts lol

So far sony havent had that good a E3 and have hardly shown any WOW factor games for release add that to the High cost of the machine and its looking poor from the sony camp

i think people are just fed up with sony promising everything and delivering nothing

Its true im a big Sony fan and that conference i begun with high hopes came out after watching embarrased.

I mean how can anyone not agree they showed to many fmv scenes the Gran Turismo conference went on to long. Last Year event they showed Getaway in game but this year all they got to show was fmv.

Im sorry but it was really poorly done it seemed a very amateurish conference aswell and how they could not even mention Killzone or Motorstorm is beyond me.

Yeah, the Sony conference was VERY dissapointing really, the GTHD was a joke indeed.

In terms of software yes, but in terms of hardware and feature set ms wiped the floor with sony, why else has the hardrives appeared, sony platform and nintendo well sony blatantly ripped them poor guys off aswell. Atleast with possibly the exception of two games (forza2 and fable) all games shown were in game sequels or not, the lies the lies of sony is what hurt's us most.

Killzone or Motorstorm wasn't mentioned due to high amount of attention it got at last years E3 and we all know now it'll look nothing like it. All smoke and mirrors by Sony.

Me personally think Sony's Playstation brand is coming to the end of a productive gaming platform as people are getting fedup with them due to lack of inovation, endless sequels, and other alternative platforms, they just seem to be this time round more worried about their damm Blue-Ray format than actually providing anything new and exciting games or hardware wise.

MS have never brought anything New, the only thing they ever done was bring out an improved online service for gamers.
As for hard drive i may be wrong but i think the PS2 had a HDD before the 360 was released.
I dont think Sony have lied (this is where people say Killzone 2, that was a HUGE mistake).
Sony are the ones who at least try to bring new technologies and get slatted for it, they held back there console for Blu-Ray, they want to try a new chip architecture in the cell, they want to have lots of ways of connecting. They want an established hand held that can then hook up to a PS3.
Lets not forget Sony where a forerunner in motion sensing, soem could argue that the Wii controller is an improved method of motion capture sony made popular with the EyeToy.

Indeed a playable Killzone is gonna look nothing like as good as the CGI last year. Then again did people really expect anything different? It has been said for ages that the PS3 is gonna have only a little more power than the 360 AND it is meant to be an absolute dog to develop for so we will not see better looking games on it till atleast half way through its life cycle.

As for them being more worried about Blue-Ray.... well you are spot on. They ARE more worried about it. I have read comments from Sony somewhere stating that the PS3 is there to get Blue-Ray out into the mainstream and after 6 months to a year when Blue-Ray gains dominance over HD-DVD (they hope... i am sceptical) they will start to concentrate more on other things.
Well thats the gist from what i can rememeber anyhow.

Anyway, i have not read right through this thread but has anyone mentioned the fact that the cheaper PS3 package will have many features taken out, not just a smaller hard drive??

Story
Spec Sheet

sorry if its been mentioned. However, oh dear oh dear.
I don't think the Sony fanboys are gonna be able to carry the PS3 this time.

The PS2 had space for a harddisk before the original XBOX even came out!

Unfortunately they never used it to anywhere near the potential they could have done, I think FF was the only game to ever use one?

Well, they've got a camera coming out soon on the 360 haven't they? Oh, wait...wasn't it Sony that did that first?

XBOX Live! I think is Microsoft's unique selling point, online gaming on the PS2 sucked a bit as it was left up to the developers in each game so you had to have an account for each game etc, Live! seems a lot more organised especially with the Marketplace with demos etc, Central Station on the PS2 was a joke.

You mean like the 360? :p

With the 360 core package you can build it up to the premium package by buying a few addons though (headset, harddisk, wireless controller)

With the PS3 I doubt they'll be offering upgradable harddisks, and it's not as if you can solder a HDMI port to the back of the console yourself!

Just pointing out that MS also released a cut-down, no wifi edition of its machine. Don't worry, I'm not taking sides - I have a 360!! ;)

None of the googled reports I have read are mentioning anything about removal of hidef sockets since the news conference - and I cant believe that one of the ps3's selling points would be removed completely ( one thing an x360 being sold without a hdd that you can add later, but totally different ballgame if there is isnt a particular type of output)

Also I guess its upto Sony ( the inventors of blueray) whether they use hdcp (as this is a pc requirement for software / dispalys mainly) or not, if they chose to then THAT is what could be added as a firmware update - I never said that a socket could be added with a software download ( thats just daft) - so needles it would be best if you stopped twisting people's words and meanings which were evident in my initial post

I also personally think its unfair to price compare a unit that has been on the market for a year against one that is brand new - of course the older one will become cheaper - compare like to like ie what the x360 was when 1st out to nov 2006 price of ps3.

But that XBOX 360 has always been £209.99 for the core and £279.99 for the Premium

yes, but the lack of HDMI on the bottom end console is just stupid (and something sony would do) I like the idea of different hard drive specs but why make it so it cannot be upgraded to full spec?
