So good to hear from you JUMPURS ( look spelt the name correct and everything ) it's been a while, still fighting in the sony corner ;) , lol kidding yes indeed a heated debate brings out the best in everyone on a forum, fanboyisim ( nice new word that is ), trolling and so on ah sure it's all done in the best possible taste

Well someone has got to ;) Cant let DirtyDog take all the abuse, wheres the fun in that ;)

and Krono, yer number 3 was online gaming, could be done with a modem at the time hahaha ;)
number 5 can be done on the PS2 to 1080p , what the 360 cant do (i think, if not 1080i)
number 8 requires a MCE PC :P

Me wriggle in an arguement, NEVER I TELL THE!!! lol

I will admit the 360 is a good Console, but its nothing hugely inovative imho.
Sony need credit for there past, they pretty much made gaming the $25b a year business it is, i mean 100million PS2's and god knows how many PS's do a lot for the industry.

I just think Sony get a really rough time on this bored.
The other problem is Sony are Japanese and the Japanese have different expectations to the west, they always have always will. and that, while being one of Sony's biggest positives, could also be their downfall.
The PS3 i am sure will be a great machine and i cant wait to get my hands on it, it wont be as popular as the PS2, but i still think it will sell more than the 360.

Well allow me to retort ;)

1) Sony had a space for the HD and always said it would come. MS put theirs in before Sony (in this country at least). Plus I was talking about HDD being in the console from day one not as an addon
2) I was talking about this not being an addon.
3)Modems are not network support. (well maybe a little but 56k is nothing worth writing home about)
4) I dont think you have a choice with 4 :p
5) High-def in 720p or 1080i (the standard Hi-Def resolutions. I dont think so. It may have done 480p but even then I am sceptical.
6) again, out of the box no add ons required (Just think of the money MS could have made this time round if they made you but everything as an accessory)
7) No it doesn't.
8) Your trying to wriggle out of this one, and you cant get out of it. Memory cards and installing a new OS is not the same as plugging in a network cable and being able to view your movies or recorded TV programs, or access all your music.
9) Assumes you bought a real 360 not a cut-down 360
10) yes because it allows 11 and 12.
11/12) of course

4/9/10/11/12) all seperate inovations utilising one part of the infastructure.

1, 7 , 8 , 9 , 10, 11, 12) I was assuming we were taking about console gameing. :D
.

1, sony UK are not SONY. SONY had HDD in JPN. also did the N64?
3, 56k was the internet 5 years ago...
5, GT4 1080i. your wrong.

I think you give Sony credit for far too much. The original GameBoy sold in excess of 120million, and the NES sold over 60million well before Sony even touched the video game market - to say Sony created or 'made' the market is very very misguided......standing on the shoulders of others s a more apt description. :p

yeah but thats like 80's retro, gaming took a dive until the PS came along, hence why i said modern day gaming ;)
after the terribleness of the saturn Sega saturated the market too quickly i think, i think consumers lost a lot of faith, until Sony came along and made it popular and 'cool' again

[edit] ok i ment to say modern day gaming ;)

Well, the SNES also sold 55million, the GBA 70million, and I dare say the N64 (~35million) probably would have sold similar if the PS1 wasn't around.

Microsoft had the first button with the console logo on the control pad that did something. :D

God this is petty, so much fun, and bloody hard to think of anything else worthy (or not worthy) of mentioning.

Sony had the first console to go vertically or horizaontaly!! HA theres an idea the 360 stole (never gets mentioned) ;)

And and and they had a wee spinning logo so u coulda change depending how the console was ;)

First console that told you how many controlers were connected and which controlers where which (instead of having to press random buttons or follow the wire back to the source)

and firewire, and usb and infa-red iirc

MS first removable face plates, lol, kinda like a nokia 5110

Problem is Sony have done bugger-all with some of the stuff they added to the PS2:

Harddisk - had the space for one, great potential, used by about 1 game & the Linux kit
Optical out - no Dolby Digital Live so only useful for DVDs
Firewire - used by 2-3 games for console -> console LAN gaming
Central Station - has the potential to be good (like XBOX Live!) but all they've done is put a couple of old reviews/previews up and it's not worth visiting

The original XBOX and 360 weren't the first who thought of the HDD in console/optical out etc, they're just the ones who took the idea and made the best out of it.

killed a PlayStation 3

The environments and backdrops are huge - although it doesn't actually look that 'next-gen', more current-gen-and-a-half. As we were in the process of considering this, the game crashed and the screen went blank. We were loath to give up our pad to the civilians in the queue behind us, but there appeared to be little point in standing there looking at a blank screen.

Either way, it seemed as if we'd inadvertently killed a PlayStation 3. Fortunately, tech support was on hand in the form of a man opening up the outsize drawer in which the PS3 was hidden and hitting the reset button. In the process, the truth of what we were actually playing on was revealed: a huge betamax video recorder-looking dev kit, and not a sexy 'clear black' PS3 at all.

As a first taste of PS3, it wasn't quite what we had hoped for. But it was quite funny."

hohum, this has gotten a bit daft, and ended up as a 'my dads better than your dad' type face off!
At the end of the day, I don't think any amount of persuasion will convince a committed fanboy one way or the other.

What Sony and MS need are some cute, exclusive characters, from killer apps. We need the Sonic Vs Mario Battle.

Yes but this whole thread is daft really when you take into account the PS3 is not even out yet, we do not know how it will be packaged, we do not really know what games are going to be good or not. All we know is Sony are in the process of makeing their Nex-Gen console, and its going to cost an arm an a leg (imagine the fle-bay prices)
