PS4 and Xbox Rumours

As it comes with it doesn't seem a downside to me anymore than my PC having a webcam/mic attached. I'm assuming it's not compulsory to use voice commands/gestures any more than with 360 although it will be handy for some voice controls, Skype etc.

Actually I vaguely remember playing a game at some point that allowed voice commands to my squad that worked really well for me, that could be interesting.

Sure, but as it comes with the console, I can't imagine the price will exactly be what it could have been if Kinect just wasn't integral to the console for no real reason other than an additional method of control.

Is that concrete? Surely they'll just do it as they do now that as long as the owner account is on the same Xbox, all other accounts can access the item?
Nope, the game disc you buy is essentially just a cd key and installation disc like on PC. You activate the game on your account and then any additional activations on other accounts cost more money. Confirmed by Microsoft

And before people continue calling me a fanboy or whatever, if Sony announces this for the PS4 I would also reconsider the purchase.

??? How is gaming the "extra feature". What more do you want them to say about it? "You put the disc in and it plays all the next-gen games".

Lol, Sony spoke about games for the entire presentation because they had no other features to talk about!

maybe sony were just waiting for microsoft to announce what they have besides games....maybe ps4 can do all that secondary stuff... sony should have something up their sleeves to counter all that tv stuff.....guess we will find out at e3

Good point actually and that could be the bit that swings it. Sony made the mistake with the PS3 of including advanced (at the time) tech with BluRay and made the device expensive. Xbox although technically inferior under cut the price and overturned Playstations complete dominance of the market.

I can't believe Microsoft having seen and exploited Sonys mistake with PS3 would make the same mistake themselves. Release the One at $349 and I think they'll do well as long as PS4 isn't cheaper.

The only way I'd be happy with the one owner thing is if you could de-activate it on your account if you trade it in or sell it.

Even then, every time you buy a pre-owned game you'd be relying on the previous owner doing that.

I guess it all comes down to how much the fee is. What do you do if you don't have internet connection? How do you pay the fee? How does it even check if it has been installed before?

I actually didnt notice that response he posted up.

There are quite a few features coming to PS4. None which were mentioned at their conference.

Gaikai is a big deal, and i dont remember it getting a mention. So features wise, they obviously have them still up their sleave.

Also there was lots of social media features mentioned too.

So its not that they didnt mention ANY. Although eugh, social media at the press of a button is going to kill my newsfeed on facebook -_-

Perhaps you have to be online to install games? Only way I could see it linking game to XBL account, or perhaps while its still 'offline' it requires the disc to still be inserted like it does for the X360 currently. Thats more than acceptable to me if Im not online at the time...

Xbox named XBox One

Xbox Live features a new Home screen featuring all manner of entertainment and social media options.

Integrated Kinect commands for the interface and switching between games, movies, TV etc with a shout as well as a splitscreen like feature allowing you to do things such as browse the web alongside watching a movie.

Integrated TV guide and viewing.

Some more TV stuff...

Very brief details about the hardware, furthering the speculation that is is weaker on PAPER than the PS4 is said to be.

A lot of hot air from EA about their sports games and some FIFA UT features being Xbox exclusive.

15 exclusives due out in the first year. One of which was teased with 10secs of CGI and the rest live action acting.

Call of Duty trailer. Call of Duty DLC is Xbox TIMED exclusive. COD gameplay footage.

And that's about it...

thanks for taking the time to post that.

Xbox One seems a rather stupid name, although HTC did something similar with a whole One Series range and imo HTC are retards, how is anyone supposed to know what phone is better when you have a HTC One, One X, One XL, One S, One V, etc, etc.

Calling this Xbox One just screams "rushed" to me as if they didn't have enough time to come up with anything decent, calling it Xbox Next or Xbox Fusion or anything would have been better.

I do not see why they keep on trying to integrate features which imo are not needed. I have a Sky+ HD box in my bedroom, as well as a PC, Laptop, Tablet, etc. I do not need or want another device for watching tv or movies. I can also use Skype and a host of other things on my Panasonic Smart TV.

Also the kinect features are similar to samsung smart features with voice control, which also imo are retarded and annoying. Ask anyone who has a Samsung Smart TV they hate the voice control and gesture control feature.

The only thing they have going for them is exclusives and exclusive DLC deals.

I won't be buying either console at launch, will wait for both to be launched and see what the general consensus is after they have seen real world use but it looks like the PS4 is in the lead atm.

From the same article it confirms you can play it anywhere on the same account so going over to a mates and logging in as you on your account to play shouldn't be a problem.

Also this could be interesting
Update: Jon Hicks, the editor of Official Xbox magazine, has claimed that pre-owned games will be un-installed from the previous owner's system and installed onto another's. It is not clear if this process would negate a pre-owned fee.

If a pre owned fee is a £2 charge that is absorbed in the second hand price so from a £10 second hand game the developers get a £2 cut i'm not bothered. The only way it could be annoying is when you have multiple people in one house wanting to play the same game with different accounts. Hopefully because it's installed onto the HDD of the original Xbox it will allow any account to play the game on that XBOX as it's already unlocked. Granted that doesn't help if little Timmy has his own Xbox upstairs.

I don't know if that's even remotely true but there's a lot of rage around here about unknowns.

Got bored halfway so gave up. All I require is a games machine, nothing more nothing less. I can understand the poor may require to swipe between gaming/skype the internet and TV but I have mutli screens that are on and as such do not require the tools of the peasant.

Nothing for me to say other than it's uglier than Souljas face when full of COD rage, but I will wait until E3 for more on the games. Atleast it's got blue ray so they can revert to sloppy compression and fill a disc for the sake of it.

Unless there is some must have launch game I will be in no rush to buy this time and will be happy to work through the ton of 360 games I still want to play. I will let you guys do the beta testing of the hardware this time :)

All games supposedly come with a mandatory install. MS specifically said this wasn't going to be an 'always-on' console.

Some of the details need clearing up tbh.
Well no doubt those kind of details were never going to surface in an one hour presentation - Im sure a lot of stuff will come out for both consoles before E3. If games are linked to accounts I cant see it being much different to Steam if they really want to make it as unobtrusive as possible...

So because it has features you don't want, that for all you know so far might effectively be packaged in for free, you don't want one.

Go figure.

Agree. What happened to the days when consoles simply played games.

I get it. They're trying to make the Xbox your entertainment 'hub' by enabling you to do all of the things that you do on the devices you listed, through their console.

IIRC, most of Netflix traffic comes from users on the PS3 and I think it's fair to say that with BluRay and easy media servers, PS3 was considered the better all-round media console early into this gen before MS started to add things like Sky and social media. They probably want to be seen as an equal as far as entertainment is concerned.

For me though, and I imagine for most of the people on these forums, we prefer dedicated devices for these jobs. I want a standalone bluray player. I want a DVR. I want a tablet. I don't want to clog up my console HDD with media from all of these forms of entertainment.
