PS4 and Xbox Rumours

I agree, it's going to confuse people. Type xbox one into google and you just get laods of stuff about the original xbox!

it's not going to confuse tech savvy people, but people who aren't will be.

it's just a stupid name for something that isn't the original console "1" and "One" should only ever be used to describe the first generation ever made.

If you know anything about HTC phones, you can see how such a naming system becomes retarded.

no mention of gaming power? ram or cpu? architecture? these are all central to which console will have the better next gen games.

Yeah, the audience they aimed the reveal at are going to be really interested in those stats...

They will come eventually, to satisfy the geeks. Not that it has any relevance, cross platform games will generally be the same, and the exclusives will make best use of each consoles resources. Just like PS3, I'd expect PS4 exclusives to look a bit better than a One exclusive, but not massively so.

like gta 4 both the ps3 and the xbox had this game but the graphics were noticeably different on them
Supposedly both will use AMD 8 core Jaguar CPU, 8GB RAM, BluRay, Large(ish) HDD, WIFI etc. The only thing we don't know is the GPU so far I think.

PS£ had marginally better graphics than 360 but that didn't seem a problem, price is going to be a big decider here I think.

*edit* the PS£ was a typo for PS3 but makes me chuckle considering the M$ thing so I'm sticking with it ;) Ok, Ok, I'm easily amused :D

Who is it going to confuse?

You and I?

No, we know what we want.

Tech unsavy people?

They go into the high street, into Game.

"Can I take a Xbox one please, its for my son"

sales assistance says "Certainly, that will be £399 please"

Or do you think they will say:

"is that the new console or the one they stopped making back in 2005 which we do not stock anymore but you can try eBay?"

Interestingly I just went through some stuff again and they mention developers can offload compute power to the cloud (presumably virtual machines and compute power on Azure). That could be massive doubling, or more the compute and rendering power of the device.

*Edit*
Can't believe this bit hasn't come up in discussion yet on a tech enthusiast forum, it could prove to be one of the most innovative, exciting elements done right. Massive processing/rendering power in the cloud?

They are.

They had other features to talk about, Sony didn't.

They can sum up the game aspect in one sentence. It plays next gen games.

There's nothing else for them to say!

What like

Gakai, instant streaming of games

Instant on / off suspend and resume of games

Dedicated hardware to share/compress video files

New playstation eye

Huge specs which they were brave enough to share :)

And a **** tonne of games

Difference being Sonys console and whole ethos is gaming oriented, what it should be in a games console

It's referring to it connecting to an existing (in our case) Sky, Virgin Tivo, BT Vision or Freeview box I would imagine, not an Xbox add on.

. The features are accessed by attaching the Xbox One to BT, Virgin, Sky, or Freeview boxes using a HDMI pass-through, which are sold seperately from the console itself.

From my original link.

Its also very similar to what EA did with the latest Simcity to ensure always online gaming even if you are playing a single player game. Probably a good idea to double check requirements before you enable such modes.

ps3ud0

Indeed, the inference from some and the article quoted seemed to try to suggest that you would need to buy extra xbox bits for the TV stuff and so "98% of stuff wont work". Clearly it was never going to have a Sky/Virgin/Freeview/comcast/whatever box integrated, it uses the HDMI in to take control of your existing "stuff" so not exactly a shock revelation.

I much prefer my 360 to my PS3 - but even I found that whole presentation and event a bit meh :(

in fact I'm quite happy I've invested quite a lot in my PC recently - at least the games are cheap

But it will be a shock to some people who will expect it to work out of the box. MS made lots of noise about this functionality, they should have said it will need some form of interface cable for it to work.
