Doubt it. If its going to be based on AMD 7000 series mobile GPU hardware, then it'll match or just overtake current games on PC but won't exceed by far as you put it.
Have you seen what a 7970m can actually do when you get a decently coded game running on an i7? It’s impressive, very impressive. 1080 60fps is more then possible, next gen consoles will be today’s gaming laptop, trust me a gaming laptop can far exceed what current 7 year old console tech can do, which why wouldn't it, but next gen consoles won't exceed what PC gamers can do today with the right hardware.
Naughty dog might have a few fancy tricks with the next PS hardware, they're well known to push hardware, and I’d be interested to see what they can do with reportedly next gen PS4 hardware.
The PS4 specs to me look very close to what a decent spec gaming laptop gives you, Sony could be on the right track going down the x86 architecture route coupled with mobile GPU tech, today’s mobile GPU’s are no slouch and this could now mean 1080p 60fps (something that Sony said the PS3 would be able to do – but only for a few games in the end, and those games weren’t true 1080p with exception for GT5) console gaming is now on its way.
Sadly, PC gamers have been there for years and many have moved on to 1440p gaming, which is where consoles won’t be at when next gen arrives. So no next gen consoles won’t be exceeding PC but it’ll certainly I would expect match or slightly better 1080p PC gaming, which is a good thing. It needs a refresh, Ps3 and 360 are getting long in the tooth. But both have managed incredible gaming, some developers have managed amazing games with the limited hardware on offer..
