PS4 and Xbox Rumours

Also somethink I would like to see in the next gen consoles would be dual or even triple outputs. Would be a killer feature to be able to do full screen split screen gaming or being able to output a complete separate output for example watching live tv and gaming at the same time. We all ready have passive 3d sets that can do dual play which is something that can be explored and improved
 
Going back to the original premise (sorry it took so long) if 4K became an accepted technology, I just cant see why Sony/MS et al just wouldnt bring out the next generation of consoles instead of allowing expansion (wouldnt it mean more money to them and additional improvements past graphics?).

What even makes the premise even considerable is that there does seem to be a movement of maturity within console development, where far fetched technology solutions like the Cell are going to be dismissed for 'off the shelf' PC hardware, we just havent had that before and its something I feel MS pioneered by reusing DX, so perhaps the idea of expansion is possible, just financial unsound.

In reality though a consoles lifetime (think Xbox might be only exception in that games pretty much stopped dead once 360 came out - I actually think games still come out for the PS2 - FIFA 13s on it :eek::p) differs from how long its available with games before its superseded by the next generation.

If we accept 2020 as when 4K acceptance is expected thats 6/7 years already, not hard to think the next generation is on the horizon just like it is now...

That's true, didn't look at it like that. Although reckon/hope well see 4K before that. Maybe i'm just looking at it from my own early adopter perspective.

If you seen the trade shows this year and last has all been about 4k.

A lot of us here play on both systems. PS3s exclusives surpass the 360 ones with regards to the way they are executed. And on the flipside, any games made cross platform are generally better on the 360 due to it generally being a lead platform for development, porting to cell is where the inferiority start to show up, due to the different way cell handles instructions. a lot of games are generally badly ported.

We discuss these things, we know these things. It's all been done to death.

Coming from a Sony fan boy here, i think MS nailed it with their console this Gen. Hence why they are on a equal footing nowadays.

Anyhow besides the point of this thread. I hope Sony really focus on gaming, and purely on gaming for the next gen. CPU, RAM and GPU is where the money should be focused.

More than likely yes you are the only person that thinks that.

I own various consoles like most in this forum and cannot for the life of me understand how you can be irritated at Microsoft for developers inability to port a multi-platform game to the Playstation.

Also if what you think was true a fair few games would be to the standard of what the Wii could produce and not the 360.

Have you never played any 1st party PS3 games? Games like Uncharted or Killzone(or that new game that's coming out: The Last Of Us?) All of these are in no way sub par compared to Xbox games. The Uncharted games are the best looking console games IMO.
 
It's going to be interesting to see how both companies go about announcing/releasing their new consoles. We were on a cusp of a technology war with regard to data storage last time, and while Sony in the end won with Bluray, its likely they got hurt in regard to immediate manufacturing costs during the early days of the PS3.

I think it will be much more even this time around. Both consoles will be similar in terms of hardware and capability. I think the major battle ground will revolve around the online capabilities of each console. And I just can't see Microsoft giving ground here.

One thing I'm completely and utterly not looking forward to, is the motion craze thats surrounded consoles. No doubt a big chunk of the release price will be in the forced bundled new Kinnect or Move. I'm already bored of this motion crap and find it to be nothing more than an awkward gimmick that gets in the way of enjoying games. The same goes for touch screen gaming too. I still have yet to find a game on Ipad/smart phones where using the touch pad doesn't get in the way. It's a horrible feature and I hope both companies steer away from it.

Wouldn't Skyrim be built around PC hardware rather than the xbox 360?

Btw no one told Sony to use the cell processor or to have barely any RAM that was their decision.
 
I think people underestimate how much PC's are held back by not being a fixed platform. I mean Naughty Dog managed this on a PS3, which is running a GPU not much different to a 7800 GTX.

Do you honestly think a PC with specs similar to a PS3 could even get close to running this at the same framerate?

I have a feeling once Naughty Dog get to grips with the PS4 it's going to look better than anything on current gen PC's.
