PS4 and Xbox Rumours

VGleaks have just released more info on Durango's GPU

http://www.vgleaks.com/durango-gpu/

Weaker than expected.

Durango GPU:
1.2TFLOP
16 ROPS

Orbis GPU:
1.8TFLOP
32 ROPS

On paper seems to be about 30%-40% Weaker than whats in the PS4.

Microsoft have screwed the hardcore gamers for the Wii Wiggle crowds

225-250

£225-£250? My arse, we'll get charged the going £400 ($630) as usual.

Hope it isn't the case though as I do want to get the 720 and the Ps4, too many brilliant exclusives to miss out on.

Anyone know if the 720 will be backwards compatible? I know the Ps4 will be as Sony aren't ****s like Microsoft.

The PS4 will not be backwards compatible. Maybe offered via gakai but not hardware back compatible.

Why are people making this assumption so quickly? Both successive consoles are using completely different architectures (Sony Cell BBE > x86-64 and Microsoft PowerPC > x86-64). Personally, I don't think either of them will have BC at all.

I dont get it either too, its obvious focus has moved from BC to online gaming/services

I dont give any credence to the Xbox leaks, perhaps with the possible Sony reveal being close makes those leaks easier to swallow, but I dont believe a lot of what Ive read on the Xbox...

ps3ud0

Neither will be!? Well there goes my dream of playing Dragon's Dogma finally...

Why not just emulate the previous console like the 360 eventually did with the Xbox originals?

This is horrible news.

Speculation it's all just speculation. When we see / hear MS and Sony publish their final actual specs - and BC along with it - only then will we have the facts.

True, for all we know both MS and Sony could be putting out false information to fool one another. Guess we will just have to wait another 16 antagonising days :)

If indeed the 20th Feb is THE announcement from Sony. I thought I read (perhaps earlier in this thread) that Sony said they definitely wouldn't reveal their specs before Microsoft?

Anyway here's hoping! :)

Great news, with 2 - 3 years out of gaming I've just picked up de human revolution for 2 quid. Roll on next gen to make my gaming cheaper. Its unrealistic, however in this day and age it would have to be sub £200 for me to even consider. Which it won't.

I would imagine both Sony and Microsoft know each others new consoles inside out tbh.

lol, since when has there ever been a proper console (not the wii) ever been anywhere near £250 @ launch. i reckon they will be cheaper due to the economy this time round, but nowhere near £250, possibly £350 at a push. or they could just rrp them at £500, which is okay so long as they come with a 5 year warranty.

The Dreamcast was massively more powerful than the gen that was before it and launched at £199.99. Plus the Wii U IS a proper console and launched at £249.99.

The 360 was £209/£279 at launch, core/premium. £300 is the 'standard' console launch point IMO, and I'm happy to pay it.

Will the ps4 and xbox 720 exceed the performance of a decent high end rig say something like a 3570k i5 @ 4-5ghz + 8gigs ram and a oc 7950 Amd gpu ?

No, not even close.

The PS4 is rumoured to be using a cutdown mobile 7970 so should be around a 7850. The XBOX is rumoured to be using a mid-high mobile GPU so maybe equivnently to a 7770 or something?

As for the CPU? Well they're both low powered mobile derived chips, so not anywhere near close to a fully fledged Ivy Bridge.

But look at what the current consoles are managing on 9 year old hardware. Unified hardware means a lot and tbh most games are developed for the consoles then ported to the Pc.

I think the new consoles will bring more to Pc gamers than console gamers tbh.
