Quest 2, Which WiFi6 Router?

This was my line of thinking as well. If it's still not perfect with Virtual Desktop then I figure I need to improve the networking situation before I start trying to make it pretty. Besides, the virgin router is pants anyway so an upgrade wouldn't hurt.

Yeah, I hear more complaints about the Wifi on the Hub 4 than the previous models.

Just for everyone's reference, new Quest 2 owner here (I say owner, Son got it for Christmas), Airlink via TP Link EAP225 works flawlessly.

Smart, buying a present for the son that you will use yourself!! :):p

TP Link devices are usually good. The only ones you have to watch out for are their AX devices.

How are you enjoying the VR experience??

The only bonus is that it finally added gigabit ports.

I have an ax3000 router arriving today so trying to decide how I'm going to configure it. I think for now I'm going to just use it as the primary router and see how I get on before trying anything like setting it up as a dedicated router for this.

TBH , I'm a bit blown away by it, way better tech than I was expecting, its very immersive, I find it very polished (I guess I wasn't expecting it to be quite so good). I guess I'm coming at the Quest 2 now its a very mature product and haven't had to work through the issues some early adopters have had. By that I mean it in the setup etc, Airlink just works, the PC runs great frames rates, the games we have tried so far really good. I'm dad of the year right now at home, my son loves it, he's currently addicted to Saints and Sinners (very good game).

yeah, finally, those home hubs tend to cheap out on the lan ports!!

An Ax3000, by TP link? these have serious problems with the Quest 2. There are threads on Reddit and the virtual desktop discord giving out about them. Try it, you might be lucky, but, chances are you will get stutter when using the Quest 2 that you can't explain.

That's good to hear. VR is awesome!! The tech has matured and you are buying at the right time. Airlink is pretty stable now and getting better with every update.

Enjoy the Dad of the year while it lasts :) It's going to be tough to beat the Quest 2 next Christmas :p

No the Honor/Hauwei one mentioned above.

Ah, great. Not sure I would set one up as the the main home router though. They aren't the best routers. The quality of the honor/Huawei stuff really varies a lot between units. Some have 4 core CPU's, some don't etc. etc and there is no way of knowing before you buy.

But, YMMV as they say. :)

I use the Hub 4 for wifi, for now. My PC is wired into that, I then have the Huawei/honor(forget which one it is) plugged into the Hub 4 just for the quest. Certainly worth a go using the Honor/Huawei, I dont think its a bad router given the price.

Not that we have had any issues with the Hub 4 wifi, son uses it for gaming upstairs and had no complaints yet. (router is downstairs).

So far, significant improvement using the hauwei router. Even in the next room with a bunch of devices connected. I can also split the 5ghz band out if I'm feeling sneaky

Ok - sorry for being slightly lazy, but given there's now 23 pages of comments, I was just wondering if anyone got to the recommended answer on the thread question?
From scanning, think onboard PC wifi cards are not as good as dedicated router, from recent threads it appears to steer clear of TP-link

I've got two Quest 2s in the lounge and have an ethernet connection there, so just need to know which Wifi6 router would be best to connect through to two PCs.

It'll be in a TV unit straight in front of the 'play zone', so doesn't really need to be that special (likewise can see it being part of the upgrade cycle each couple of years as VR advances, wifi advances etc)

So if I was going to buy a dedicated wifi 6 router what would be best bang for buck?

If you are just going to be using it as a dedicated router for the Quests, then a Honor 3/Huawei ax3000 mentioned a few posts up is worth trying first as it's pretty cheap.

Want something from a more known brand, the Asus AX55 is highly recommended.

My Huawei AX3 came this morning, I thought for £30 (the Quad Core one is £40) why not it says Wifi 6 3000Mbps Dual Core 1.2ghz on the front of the box. Going to use it as an upstairs Access Point for the Quest 2 when I decide where to put it just to see if it makes any difference.
Already getting 866Mbps where its currently being used so will see when I have time.

Cant say where it came from as OCUK sell routers but you can work it out if you search.

Yeah so far I rate it. The virgin hub 4 didn't get 5ghz upstairs in my house but I get my full 220mb/s (my connection is rated for 200) upstairs now (above the router).
