***Quest Pro Owners Club***

Had to factory reset my headset today as airlink performance was awful. Confirmed it was the headset as my Q2 had no issue playing airlink over both my routers, but the Pro was unplayably laggy - just like if I'd forgotten to reset the bitrate in the Oculus Debug Tool, but that was set to 0.

Factory reseting it did work, as least for now.

I've just got a TP Link AXE5400, which has Wifi6E, and after the reset its providing a solid performance with a wifi connection bitrate of over 2000mb/s(!)
I've not tried upping the Quest bitrate in the ODT but I might be able to approach wired link speeds. (Providing Airlink doesn't bork again...).

And after some faffing about I got eye and face tracking working in VR Chat. Now if only I could find a non-anime/furry avatar with face tracking.

Just been experimenting with Airlink settings using Wifi 6E.
Tried increasing the encode rate > 200 for the default (H265) codec and it was unplayably laggy.
Then switched to H264 codec (which is the same as Wired Link I believe) and upped it to 500.

WOW! Wired link visuals but completely wireless! Incredibly smooth, and there's very little compression. It does look a little softer though. There was the odd pause, but that seemed to be my PC processor getting hammered by some processes on my PC and not the link. The link itself was very stable.

Skyrim looks incredible. None of the muddyness you normally get on wireless.

Just tried it myself only went to 400 as I'm on a tplink ac1750 which is only a 5ghz router and it worked very well. Cheers :D

My router in the cabin is split on the frequency 2.4Ghz is the same name and pw as the house with the 5Ghz only shared to the pro.

Yeah it works on 5ghz but you probably can't go as high as 6E, but very impressive you got to 400. Looking at wifi analyzer on my phone the TP Link router combines loads of wifi bands together, while my other one only combines a couple. I'm very impressed. I'll have to try it for range. It might work at standard bitrates a bit further away. Would be cool if it reaches my living room (but I doubt it will).

well for better or for worse I took a leap and just paid for a quest pro on everybodies favourite auction site
I have been hovering for ages. it's sealed, seller has decent history, and eBay sent me a 5% off voucher which pushed me over the edge

gonna give my quest 2 to my lad and we can play 2 player table tennis and walkabout golf

will sell my reverb G2

(will be waiting till it's in my hands however as I am still worried buying such big items but I hope their buyer protection will cover me if it's dodgy.

Wil be interested to read your opinions on it. Thought about making that leap many times, especially with the prices they are on the second hand market. Just the FOMO with the Quest 3 is stopping me.

I may eat my words and feel free to say "I told you so" but for my uses I think the pro will be better.

the games i plan to play on the pro are not demanding (walk about golf, thrill of the fight, eleven table tennis etc). the fact it works flawlessly outside is huge for me.

but I want good pcvr with foveated rendering and 2 screens with proper ipd adjustment.

I am not ET but my IPD is on the limit for the quest 2

main issues are 1) possible warranty problems and
2) it not being stolen and me getting banned.

(I would hope if it does not turn up eBay will refund me)

I bought mine from eBay not long after release and I’ve had no issues yet so you should be fine, for pc vr I still think the pro will be better than quest 3 anyway

No, you misunderstand me. I don't think I will be telling you I told you so. I think it will be the case where the Quest Pro will be better in some areas while the Quest 3 will be better in others. Pick the one that suits you best!!

I will be interested in your thoughts as a reluctant buyer of the Quest Pro, which is exactly what I would be. :)

it's a shame.... ideally the quest pro would not have launched when it did..... then the quest pro could have launched now (or maybe 3 months ago) with the new chipset in, then 6 months
after the pro launch the actual quest 3.

that way you end up with 2 headsets a premium one and an affordable one, both essentially the same performance

but then there would be no compromise.... the differentiator would be cost but there would be no weighing up about do I need a faster processor or do I want separate panels in the headset and independently tracked controllers

quest pro is here.... the thing is so well put together, it just feels like a quality device (as it should given its - ludicrous - launch rrp).

the image quality is an instantly noticable step up on the Quest 2 . not hooked up to pc yet so cant compare to my reverb G2, but its comfy, more so than the Q2 even with my head strap. i notice the sound is not as good as the reverb G2 but that does not worry me.

i have set up a dummy account and added to the Q2, so i can game with my lad (minor pita having to uninstall the Q2 apps and reinstall again on the new profile but no biggie.
so far so good.

oh and having 256gb of storage is so freeing after struggling with 64gb!.

will be interesting to see it compare to the G2

From what I understand the G2 is a bit clearer when looking straight ahead, but the sweet spot is so small you have to move your head around a lot. The Pro is much sharper across the entire image so you don't have to move your head around and can look around with your eyes more naturally.

ok bear in mind it's early days and I have not messed with oculus tray tool settings yet to push the settings. this is all on wired , I want to get it as best as it can be at 1st without worrying about wireless issues.
my go to game for testing PCVR headsets against one another ... elite dangerous sat in the.asp

at default the G2 has a slight clarity advantage, but it's tiny. it could easily change with an upped bitrate.

the Pro DOES have a slightly better sweetspot, but I find the G2 small sweetspot is over egged a bit.... it's not that bad at all imo but this may be because I am used to a rift DK2 and CV1. I am used to looking with my head and not my eyes

with the face plate mod and the headset pushed right to my face so I can almost see the edges of the panel the FOV of the G2 is slightly smaller than the Pro. talking a tiny amount hardly worth noting . .... but then it really is uncomfy and as soon as you let go of the headset it pushes out and the FOV shinks.

in reality the Pro actually has a practical nice little bump in FOV over my G2. still not huge but am happy with it.
(significantly larger than the Quest 2 which I also did a comparison and that felt like binoculars after using the pro)
Blacks are improved over the G2. again not massive , the G2 blacks are not awful for an LCD on the G2 but it's an evolution. (not a revolution). the Pro is still not OLED.

but display wise the big win is the colour reproduction. now we are talking a significant change. instantly the colours just pop so much more , noticeable.immediatrly from the opening elite loading screen .

away from elite I tried Asgard's wrath. no comparisons here it was late... but that is simply gorgeous. the controllers track so well. the quest 2 controllers track ok (the G2 not as good as quest 2 but passable)... I am convinced independently tracked controllers with inside out is the future ... it's a shame Meta don't agree :(
it's the quality of light house with the ease, portability and practicality of inside out. (I am biased however as have been banging on that oculus (at the time) should do this ever since the quest 1 launched).

Sound... it's not going to match the G2. the G2 along with the index has industry leading built in sound but I think the sound from the pro is good. better than the quest 2 . but just to be clear I find the quest 2 sound passable as well. I guess i am not that fussy about sound because those who say quest sound is unusable I feel are hugely over exaggerating.

Still early days. I think there is legroom to be made in the connection settings but so far I am happy........

£1500 launch RRP. daft. silly, greedy and bonkers. it was marketed at people not interested and it's just too much more than the quest 2 (or 3) for most gsmers

£1000 new RRP. closer .... it is a premium bit of kit. the only thing holding it back a little is lack of proper Display Port but the loss is minimal.

I don't want to break any forum rules so going to be vague now but I have seen for £800 new from reputable place. at that price it's worth while if you want a high end pcvr headset.

I paid £532 but not without risk

I felt the built in audio was pants. My solution was a pair of Koss KSC75s. Dirt cheap and “ok” sound.
subjective I guess... like I said above I admit I am more forgiving than some wrt sound. For me FOV and clarity are more important (again bear I. mind I cut my teeth on the old Dev kits so I am probably forgiving there too).. but tracking for me is the single most important thing and I am intolerant there... but on that the quest pro is great

whilst I am glad separate headphones are an option I am not interested. too much bulk and I happily dropped that when I got rid of my dk2
