Well, they arent its not like there are millions of league clubs and so 20 to 30 can be "the biggest in the world"
There are a couple of thousand of which 7 or 8 are the biggest in the world.

And Arsenal are not part of them.

Yup.

Off the top of my head.

Bayern Munich
Real Madrid
Barcelona
AC Milan
Juventus
Manchester United
Liverpool

Massive clubs, not just your "well we've won a couple of League titles and got to a CL final" types

Arsenal are among the top few in Europe for sure, they've been in the CL for about 10+ seasons in a row, that's a sign of consistency which points to quality. Aren't there only a few teams with a better CL record than Arsenal?

In the last few years they've been in a Final, Semi and Quarters etc. and always been near the top of the English league.

Out of curiousity which teams in Europe do you think have been better recently? I'll take Man Utd, Barca and Real, but apart from that, over the last decade, there hasn't been that many

Edit - Bayern? They're not much of a force any more, same goes for Juve and Milan (for gods sake they're at the stage where they have to sell players for the club to even survive, no longer are they a 'big club'), Liverpool have done well in Europe recently but otherwise haven't been particularly dominant

My post is void if people are ignoring the last 10 years or so. But to me (that's when I've been watching football) that's the most important bit, as I didn't see the football before that

Come on I thought you were more intelligent than that!

Bayern, AC Milan, Juve......... are in the Elite bracket of football teams, always have been always will be.

So that makes the argument null and void then because you don't recognise them as big teams :/

Wolves were once kings of England and Europe, imagine that!

Well we havent won enough titles to claim our spot as one of the biggest football clubs in the world according to some in here;).

Actually depending on what you mean recently...i wouldnt say Real have done all that well lately other than spending stupid amounts of money a la Chelski and Man City to win their titles...currently they languish 5 pts off Barca in the La Liga and were dumped out of the Copa del Rey...Barca were also dumped out earlier this week by Sevilla i think but sill top the la liga table.

Meh, I don't really get the whole history thing and probably don't respect it as much as most fans. I think the game has changed so radically in the last decade that what happened before is kinda nullified, well, it doesn't matter too much to me at least. So therefore that's why I don't respect this 'Elite' band of clubs. All I see now in Bayern and Milan are failing teams that will never return to their former glory, and find it frustrating that they still get the respect that the clubs' players generations before them earned.

Edit - I don't think Real have been the best over the last 10 years, but there's no denying they're a massive club, whether or not I completely disagree with their entire club and how it's run.

So are we talking about the current biggest teams in the world or the ones with the most history?! I'd say Arsenal are currently one of the big teams in the world, but I agree that those other clubs have more history. I personally know which one matters most to me, and probably every other fan in the world (what's happening now and in the future! - apart from Liverpool fans :p)

So does this go for players as well?

Players like Pele? Best? Madonna? Cryuff? Di Stefano? Platini? Pusckas? Maldini? Franz Beckenbauer? Zico? Batistuta?

A.C. Milan, Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern, Juve are massive clubs, who have World wide respect.

Do you seriously believe that?

MU and Liverpool could quite easily turn into mid table mediocre in the next few years, it doesn't stop them being massive clubs.

AC Milan always seem to get written off yet they're on fire and closing in on Inter in the league. Wouldn't bet against them getting to the latter stages of the Champions League either.

Agreed, they are still a team to be reckoned with...just in the past few yrs or so they havent quite had the success they had in the past...still with Ancelotti in charge they were winning things left, right and centre.

They were in a European final in 2007 and won it?

How is that in the past "few" years not had the success?

And so by that rational, Arsenal are no longer a big team ;)
