Its like being in a time warp... this product is 15-20years later... whats going on how did they get all this hype? I can only assume the owner of the company knows Mr Murdock very well...

It's a charity, they don't do this as a full time job and at a guess they are a little overwhelmed with the interest and demand.

Anyone else enraged at how the R Pi project has panned out is free to make their own ARM based system and pitch it to the world

Right, because sky has mentioned it only after launch etc it must be someone who knows Murdock.

Oh wait...

Its the pricing that is revolutionary. It brings it to a totally different market than previously.

again 15 / 20 years ago you would be correct, however I can buy PC's all day much more powerful for the same price... (all be it 2nd hand)

I doubt there is a family in the country that cannot afford a PC of some sort..

Grade A numpty.

The point went that way <-

This isnt about just having a pc, its a learning tool, its cheap so you can do fairly base level coding etc without worrying about bricking a full house pc, its designed not to replace laptops etc, its designed to help people learn about the ins and outs of code. It isn't powerful because it doesn't need to be, it isnt big because it doesn't need to be.

It would be quite funny mind watching school kids carrying tower cases home with them each day.

After registering my interest yesterday, got an email about a hour ago from Farnel with a link giving me access to purchase 1 Raspberry Pi. Looks like the are sending out emails and processing orders on a first come first served basis.

I got my order in!

Me too! Looking forward to it. The website says 30 days til stock, who knows if that is accurate or not. Looking forward to it though!

I've sketched out my initial plan for the Raspberry Pi: To build a cheap off the shelf data logger system for both car and bike.

It will consist of:

Separate board with micro-controller reading input from 3AX accelerometer, 2AX gyroscope, RPM, air temp, engine temp sensors (connected back to Pi either by the IO headers if possible, needs a bit more investigation as to bandwidth available)

GPS input for speed, lap timing, route recording, splits etc.

Video and audio recording to external USB HD.

I'm still trying to get spec's together and design the board for the analogue sensor input but this could probably be done all in for around £100 excluding cameras.

First awesome use for the Pi I've seen, looking forward to seeing how it pans out :)

Any news from RS, anyone get notification from them?
I did yesterday:

Dear Customer

Thank you for joining the Raspberry Pi revolution and registering your interest in Raspberry Pi’s Model B board from RS Components.

We have received extraordinary levels of demand for this product. To help ensure as many people as possible can experience the Raspberry Pi concept, we are limiting boards to one per customer, and we will send you further information on your request in the next seven days. Once we receive the boards into stock, they will be allocated on a first-come first-serve basis, in order of when requests were received.

Thank you for your patience; we will be in touch as soon as possible with more details.

I was registered pretty much dead on 6am, so we'll see if I get allocated one. Although I've got one pre-ordered from Farnell due mid-March too, so I may pass that one on to my mate.

I want one! Shall run a submersible tank for exploring flooded mine shafts.

Mk1 was just a camera, compass and lights straight down a 100ft shaft, worked well, and got some good video of a side shaft which we want to explore, hence the need for a tank!

This will run this perfectly, hopefully recording 4 x camera, temp sensors, digital compass while transmitting the control commands back down the wire for the tank. Excellent.

This was posted on Farnell yesterday:

"We will be receiving our first shipment of Raspberry Pi boards within the next 7-10 days (approximately March 9-14) in our warehouses around the world. Pre-orders will be shipped from this supply in the order they were received."

From here

My order went through at 7:06. Anybody get an earlier one?
