RC cars

Looking to get back into the world of RC again. Once owned a few battery cars from a Subaru Impreza 22B, Ford Escort RS Cosworth and a Petrol Toyota Corolla. Anyone know where the best places to shop for RC gear?

Ah fantastic, thank you. I'll take a browse at a few kits now however, not sure whether to get a buggy for grass hills, dirt off roading?
I always felt they were more fun to build and drive. I’m just considering getting back into it, my problem was I enjoyed the building and upgrading more than driving it, part of the problem at the time was not having a suitable track or place to use it

Same, always enjoyed the building process. Thankfully, I now have a few areas to go and play! :D

Just had a look at a few HPI and Tamiya kits, never owned HPI so can't comment on these but Tamiya have been solid in the quality department back in the day.

Tamiya use to own the market when I built my first one. If you want to spend a bit more schumacher racing products (their factory is round the corner from me)

Oh okay, still trawling through some of the kits now and will look out for the name. https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/tamiya-subaru-impreza-monte-carlo-99-tt-02-397245, https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/tamiya-escort-mk.ii-rally-mf-01x-1334538, https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/schumacher-procat-classic-kit-1347297.

I'd avoid the Procat - only because it's an old kit having been re-released and some parts of the build can be tricky.

If you're South Wales, take a look at L and L Models - he's local and great support to racers in the area. If you're interested there are clubs in Cardiff (2wd, 4wd, vintage classes) and (I think) Kidwelly.

I like the pro cat one but reading the comments from EddScott I would have second thoughts. It's been years since I built any RC car so I would take advice from someone more up to date with it all.

Very competitive on prices and plenty of choice. Got my eye on a kit now, any tips on stopping decals from peeling off once applied on the body?
If it's a hard body you could apply a layer of clear on top - not sure on the best approach for a lexan body.

If a lexan body is well cleaned after the overspray film is removed you shouldn't have an issue with decals peeling in the most part (just avoid very sharp corners when cutting out your stickers as these tend to lift easier)

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and bought this https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/tamiya-wild-one-blockhead-motors-livery-1338870

I was thinking of swapping out the stock motor and the already included ESC for a Hobbywing QUICRUN 1060 Brushed Waterproof ESC and Tamiya Super Stock Motor 23T Type BZ.

That's a great kit and good choice for the ESC and motor.

The BBX is worth a look if you like that style of car (basically super modern version of the Wild One): https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/tamiya-bbx-bb-01-1349192

I used to own an RS Cosworth kit when I was a kid and fancied a change this time.

At this moment I'm not that knowledgeable on RC and hoping some of the choices I've made are good ones. Hoping to take delivery of the kit on Tuesday but before I build I'm going to look into motors and ESC's.

I watched a few build videos on this last night and they complain about the kit having plastic bearings, so I ordered the replacement metal kit.

I'd stick with the stock motor and ESC combo on a first run around and get an idea of the speed, and then in turn how much faster you actually want it to be. I don't think the stock ESC is too bad from memory, just lacks a LiPo cutoff, the stock motors aren't quick. I'd personally not upgrade to another brushed setup, I'd go onto brushless.
I've got a DT03 Racing Fighter, initially ran it with a 1060 (I bought mine without an ESC) and the stock torque motor. Then replaced that setup with a Hobbywing Quickrun Max10 4000kV brushless combo. Doubled the speed on 2S, and can run 3S too. It's way overpowered :D Plus I've got perhaps double the battery life too.

Going 10.5T brushless on a drift build and got another brushless planned for a rally car.

Also just ordered the Tamiya Top Force Evo for a decent price but planning to keep this brushed, so I ordered a Tamiya Super Stock TZ with a metal motor mount and a 19T Steel Pinion 0.6 MOD.

Hoping to take delivery of it tomorrow and build next week if plans stay put.

Mega win, nice!

I bought the youngest the FTX carnage for Xmas. Not a bad truck, for her it's fine. On 2s the speed is ok, nothing mega, but fine for her.
Can go 3s, but will probably wear things out too fast.
