really getting fed up with the posts stating RTX/DLSS does not work this gen

Even a 3080ti is gonna have a hard time moving past the 30s at 4K with all the RT effects. On the other hand 4k 60 with the 2 reflection RT effects will be doable.

4K RT Max is a slideshow (below 20 on a 2080Ti in benchmarks), no one is going to playing with those settings.

4K max with no DLSS is indeed laggy, around 15-20fps, but with DLSS 4k/2K all max it's around 30-60fps depending on where you are, and the image quality difference between full 4K is negligible.

Again, 4K/1080P DLSS and it's 60fps with dips into the 40s with again negligible difference.

Played the first 30 minutes with overclocked 2080ti.

I've tried a few configurations so far

4k max settings, Ray Tracing Off, DLSS Off = locked 60fps and 2080ti drawing a measly 160w power
4k max settings, Ray Tracing ON HIGH, DLSS ON = 50 to 60fps and 2080ti drawing 320w power
4k max settings, Ray Tracing ON MEDIUM, DLSS ON = locked 60fps and 2080ti drawing 280w power

And the best for last

4k max settings, Ray Tracing on HIGH, DLSS OFF = 25 to 34fps observed

My thoughts on DLSS: Definitely enable it, it looks brilliant. Not quite native 4k stuff, but if you apply a sharpener over it then you could probably get that fake 4k from the extra sharpness. DLSS on it's own looks fantastically clean and definitely looks sharper than just using 2560x1440p for the render resolution. The performance uplift from DLSS ON is pretty crazy too. As per my above testing just on DLSS can take you from 30fps to 60fps if you have ray tracing on.

That's exactly the same for me

They are good results. Higher than I have seen published in reviews; e.g. this one from OC3D. I don't think their 2080Ti is overclocked and they are running on a 6/12 CPU at 4GHz.

The game has no official benchmark. The results anyone gets depends on what part of the game they tested, I'm early on in the game

That must be it. OC3D say "Our test scene is designed to simulate some of the more demanding workloads that the game offers, while also offering repeatability".

Sounds good. Bodes well for Cyberpunk 2077. I am sure they will pull out all the stops for that game :)

4K is fantastic.... For watching sky and Netflix but gaming has to be done on UW :D
You will come around eventually with your next upgrade mate, don’t you worry. More pixels means sharper and better graphics ;)

If it was not for tech like the image sharpening tools and dlss, I actually may have considered downgrading to 1440p to get playable RT with the 3000 series. But looks like Nvidia are making improvements on that front so might as well stay at 4K :D

Hopefully we will see the 3000 series in the next 6 months. I am assuming you will be upgrading purely for the RT performance improvement? If I had to guess there will be no less than a 100% improvement going from a 2080 Ti to a 3080 Ti. Jensen will dazzle you with his presentation and take your money and likely mine too this time :p;)

This, its fantastic! :D
I might downgrade someday just yet. Will see what the 3000 series brings. I may go down the route of selling my monitor, going for 3070 and ultrawide or keeping what I got and going 3080 Ti. All will depend on price and performance. I can do like gregster and do UW gaming on PC and 4K on a OLED and PS5 :D

Let’s hope the LG C9 drops to a good price on Black Friday. If not will grab it when the PS5 comes out.

I think, sadly, at the end of the day my hype for RT is going to be relegated to the waiting bin to join my hype for 8K. It's really cool sometimes but ultimately there's still too many compromises around (and I'm not really talking performance) and the vision hasn't come together yet. It's still too early. Think it's going to be a couple more years still.

What impressed me the most recently has been HDR in The Division 2, right at the start in the 2nd area where there's a supply drop, had that happen during dusk, it started raining and then you had the flares around. Utterly and completely jaw dropping scene, I'm sad I didn't capture it. No RT comes anywhere close to the impact that had. All these things on the other hand, they're nice but they are still limited in so many other ways. I think HDR would've been an ever bigger deal for Control than RT. As it is what really kills it for me is the noisiness, but that applies to non-RT as well. Only way to really get rid of it is to kill SSR/RT or just up resolution a lot (but for RT that makes it unplayable). Maybe it's just me being particular about noise, but it's sad that the game is more enjoyable without all these effects than with.

There are a lot of other improvements in games which can be made before RT is even a thing tbh. I'd rather see improvements to sound than RT, something which seemed to stop progressing a long time ago.

I'd prefer to see VR improve and become mainstream as well, because unlike RT that actually is a game changer.

What noise? I don’t see any noise
