Dayum the dudes so desperate for a 3080 hes willing to buy a damaged one for way beyond retail price, desperate times. Look what you turned us into Nvidia ffs.

Well i bought mine within the first hour of release, and literally only just received it mid-November, so god knows, with the way OCUK are taking countless pre-orders, how long others have to wait who ordered even the day after and beyond!
I believe production has been ramped up though and numbers are looking a bit better.

This was the message, identity scrubbed for obvious reasons. I haven't replied as of yet, as it's technically classed as scalping in my eyes, I will make a profit, regardless of if I wanted to or not.

scam written all over it.

Honestly if you're not happy with OCUK get your money back and go elsewhere, even if it means being without.

I did enquire, and he is from Bournemouth, I am from Weymouth, he's given me his address and willing to meet since it's only 35 mins down the road, to meet and cash in person. I honestly don't think it's a scam, I was of course suspicious at first before speaking to him further.

My friend I ordered mine on the 17th September as soon as OCUK website wasn't crashed for me at about 7pm and I've gone from 158th to 113th or something since then. Even still I would not be mad if they were sending replacement cards to people who already received a damaged one before I got mine. I mean how many out of the <50 cards they already have sent of my model are likely to be damaged? This is so silly. Feel like most of that 50 are people cancelling anyway. Wouldn't be so frustrating if other than useless queue emails, there was a better way to understand when I might actually expect to recieve a card, other than trying to follow Gibbo's confusing posts on the forums.

I mean people have been saying production will scale up in November for a while now, and the retailers PR will say that "We are doing everything possible in these unprecedented times to communicate", but there is no actual solid evidence production is stepping up at all.

What makes this funny, is the fact that if I had just kept quiet and observed Gibbos thread until he posted an MSI update, and then I contacted to RMA my card, no problem, would've returned, MSI shipment would come in or due in soon, and would be sent my replacement.
The fact I never thought OCUK would be so tight as to not let me hold a moment for Gibbo update on MSI shipment to return is why I started the process, as MSI even said themselves, that shouldn't be a problem, but apparently it is :(

Man I feel so frustrated for you I would not be okay with a clearly broken card but even less happy to be right at the back of the queue of probably thousands of people. This is a bit of a tandem but I honestly feel like Nvidia knew there was no stock anytime soon of the 3080 but just launched the damn thing in September knowing AMD was launching their graphics cards. They are probably sat there laughing at how much peoples money they still have 2 months down the line for product that they wont bother manufacturing until 2021, KNOWING that people would struggle to convince themselves to leave the queue for a 3080 to even get a 6800xt on release because they dont want to risk losing their place in the queue... Bruh im frustrated. Like even more for your situation than personal my lack of card.

I'd take the offer from the guy asking to buy & trade his 1070Ti, not really sure how he can scam you when you see the cash in your account, only thing is the 1070Ti might be faulty but thats a risk worth taking. 35min drive is worth it.

I’d take the grand tbh, you’ve inadvertently made a bit out of this to boot then sit back and wait for things to settle down - which will happen - and buy a different brand.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm in exactly the same boat today...

Almost identical fracture...

Mine is from another retailer, who has accepted my return request, but it's a fully automated system (and a big national retail chain) so no chance of asking for stock to be held or anything like that :( .

oh my god!!! it is literally a carbon copy of my break!! jesus, I wonder how many out in the wild are like this, this is really saddening! WHY the F did they use plastic, especially on the premium model, seriously, why?

If im thinking who this "national retail chain" is correctly, that place actually holds 5% of all it's electrical stock intake specifically for returns, rmas etc. So I think you won't be waiting very long at all.

It’s pretty bad, yeah. The over tightening seems a good shout, it just can’t take the shocks of transport. I did see a review of the card than mentioned the ‘graphene plastic’ backplate and I did think “nice, but surely that will make them more brittle...”

Nice to hear about the 5% stock thing, makes me feel a little better now! (assuming we are talking about the same place ;))

It's not over tightening I don't think. The flappy bit that broke off has no support so will break along the line of the screws.
Must also be made of crap plastic.
Even sliding that thing into an anti static bag or into the foam box could snap it off

This is a SHOCKINGLY sub-par product, especially for it's price, this should never have even slightly passed quality control!!!
In my opinion this falls under not fit for the job, as the backplates job has a lot to do with cooling (heat dissipation) therefore if they are breaking so easily, not fit for purpose and need a recall!

I most definitely want a different card, not a chance I want it replaced with the same WEAK backplated card that can break at the sign of a feather!, but overclockers wanting to put me BACK OF THE QUEUE to do so is leaving me with either keeping this broken card, or possibly waiting MONTHS AND MONTHS now at the back of one of the other queues. FFS WHY O WHY did I order from overclockers.

I suggest anyone else due to get an MSI card, don't !!! Stay away, STAY VERY FAR AWAY!!

Check the warranty and see if you can replace the backplate without affecting it. If you go to the back of the queue you will get a card sometime in 2021. Sucks you got a card with some damage. Looks like the backplate hangs off the PCB towards the end, this is the point at which the backplate separated away from the rest. The Backplate could be brittle and a quick shock is all it took. Normally you would have to drop the card to get it to break in that way.

TBH ZX128k, after seeing more and more as more time passes, broke, and more people receiving them broke, it tells me mine wasn't a one off, or some sort of freak accident, it is in it's nature, a very bad design, extremely weak, and breaks as you said by the slightest force, even that of pulling it out from the anti static bag. With this there is no way I want an MSI Gaming X Trio 3080 of any sort, even undamaged, the fact it's weak, you could remove it 1 day and it breaks, hell you could even blow a bloody canned air over it and it would actually break!! Completely unacceptable, so no way do I want one, I would like to RMA this damaged card for a different one, but as you said with overclockers putting me back of the queue, through no fault of my own, i won't even see one now till well into 2021.
