*** Resident Evil 2 Remake ***

Take into mind this is a remaster, not a remake. So the mechanics and core gameplay will be the same, it's just on a new engine with prettier graphics. If it were a remake like the upcoming FF7 remake, then things would be different. For example, the FF7 remake has an entirely different (within reason) combat mechanic and camera.

Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said it's a reimagining of the series, although internally Capcom refers to it as a remake.

A remake is a retelling, created in an upgraded and better game engine than its source material. ... A remaster is usually just upgraded visuals, a remake is built from the ground up.

The game seems OK but it feels very similar to Resident Evil 4. Given it's 15 years after that game released I'd kind of expected to see things advance a bit further as a lot of the mechanics feel very dated.

I know people complained about RE7 but at least it was brave enough to do something different after the disappointments of RE5 and RE6. This just feels like a game from 2005 with slightly better visuals to me? I say that as someone who'd played every RE game a launch since the very first one.

Personally I'll give it a miss after playing the demo.

The thing is, this game is made for the fans of the original as they have been begging for a remake for years. The fans of the original games love those mechanics and don't want them to advance. Many fans (myself included) hate the direction Resident Evil took when they "advanced" the mechanics and changed the game from an awesome survival horror, to a rock punching action game. RE2 remake has already changed too much for some fans tastes, like the over the shoulder camera instead of fixed camera angles.

I haven't played the demo and tried to avoid as much as possible, so I'm not sure exactly what the remake is like. If it really is the same as the original with better visuals, then I'd personally be over the moon with that.

I've just never been good with scary content, be it games or films. Films I oddly do enjoy, but will cower behind a pillow. Games just have more of an effect on me. I don't think it's about being desensitized, it's just imagination, mine runs wild and I love creepy stuff. I just gets under my skin.

Ahh fair enough! I just always wondered how it affects people haha, I guess if you got a wild imagination then it could come up with all sortsn no offence by the way! :)

Haha, none taken! I'm 6'2", big bearded pleb of a man. Yet, put the conjuring on and I'm under a duvet using my wife as a blind fold. However, I loved the conjuring as it felt like a true horror/thriller film to me and was a great flick to watch so I added it to my blu ray collection! My wife is fine, she just can't stand suspenseful sounds so will plug her ears with her fingers and sit like nothing is happening lol.

I tried to play Alien Isolation and with headphones on, I simply couldn't hack it, but understand that game is a horror masterpiece because of the environment it places you in. I just wish I could grow a pair and play through it as I know I'm missing out.

If it's purely horror and gore, love it, will sit there all giddy watching how the creators of the entertainment went about making the goriest scenes as believable as possible. Take a Serbian Film for example, most claim it's the most horrifying thing they've ever seen. Meh, for me it was ok. Now the scene in Bone Tomahawk where the man is split in 2. That was awesome gore. It's just supernatural jump scares that break me lol.

Only just got around to playing tonight to check performance, decided to playthrough it and went fully immersed with the headphones.

Wow they actually might have pulled this off, off to pre-order now :D

That's the undead for ya - they don't need faces! :D

I fell foul of trying to walk too close to a guy I'd already "killed" *munch munch* :p

If a Zombies head doesn't directly come off it's still alive! I shot one in the face 6 times in the library and she fell over, then by the time I'd explored and cleared the other 4, she got back up!

There was a video I'd seen where a zombie had been blown in half by the shotgun, then both it's arms shot off with the pistol. It was just a torso and head but it was still wriggling and trying to bite the player :D

Just pre-ordered on Steam. How do I get it to install for release on the 25th?

Its not giving me the option atm.

If there's no option, then there's no pre-load available at the moment. Might appear closer to release, might not. Capcom have been pretty inconsistent whether their games have pre-load available or not.

Just played through the demo with surround sound speakers on loud and a little poop came out.

Great looking game and it plays well too, definitely took me back to the original.

£45 is a bit steep for me though so will wait until it comes down a bit.

£30 from cdkeys mate :)

Interesting. See, I don't understand why CAPCOM don't just do it themselves as something you unlock when you complete the game as a bonus or something! Would really make old scrollers like me very happy.
