Return to 'The Troubles'?

Yes but there's a difference between idiot Loyalist teenage goons being encouraged by middle aged failures of Loyalist men and a Protestant.

One follows encouragement of violence and the other follows the encouragement of his local church and family.

Lol, I'm not disagreeing with you, but unfortunately people will associate them with each other. Listening to the recording you will hear the man do the same thing, I can't remember his exact words but I think he says "You call yourself protestants?"

Yes, but did he find another way through? Did he find a more sympathetic road block later (which of course wouldn't be reported so we're left with only this distressing 30 second clip of one particular road block to be outraged by). Did he go back later like the doctor who was doing the home visit? Like I said, we need to know more.

Mate, that's not important and really no one can make excuses for them or hope it turned out ok in the end, it should never have happened.

I don't think you should be throwing stones about who is an is not impartial either. At least it's quite obvious what my politics are and I'm not hiding behind the facade of being oh so liberal.

I have pretty much the opposite politics to you on this, but I respect that you've made a string of intelligent, informed posts throughout the thread. And even agree with you on several points. But what are you trying to say about the old mans clip? That he is a stooge put there by someone to make the protesters look bad? Does it matter if he got through later on or found an alternative route?

The clip speaks for itself. A protestant man walking through a protestant community was barred from going somewhere quite important to him by a gang of other protestants. Fair enough, you might say, it is a protest after all. But instead of the people blocking the road explaining that they were out protesting and unfortunately he wouldn't be let through. They treated him, a fellow protestant and member of their own community like a piece of **** and openly mocked and jeered at him. It was a disgrace and is indefensible.

Lol, Mitzy is going to have words with you. :D

I'm not sure if you're just bitter and you let it cloud your judgement somewhat or if that's really what you think but it doesn't say much for what kind of people you are.

Don't take it so seriously. This is GD. ;)

One is well aware of the social and political ramifications should such an act actually be undertaken by the security forces.

Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see it happen, outside of any consequence, though.

BBC news just showed an interview with a PUP representative and he focussed on Republicans throwing bricks.

Surely if you're familiar with NI politicians you know that part of the job description is to make sure any trouble is someone else's fault. :)

I didn't see the report you mention but I'd seen a video earlier where the ones in Short Strand started throwing at the protesters coming back from town, I assume that's what he's talking about.

I swear there must be something bred into these people where if they see one side causing trouble then they have to get involved too. Been a bad day all round again, it's not good.

Believe it or not a lot of Loyalists do think along those lines, during the marching season a Loyalist attacked a group of Nationalist protesters holding a banner, from there things kicked off with the protesters being showered with bottles from the loyalist side. Next thing you know theyre firing out claims left and right that Nationalists started it and the person who attacked the protest was a stooge..

Paranoia for the win..

Not so much paranoia as it is childish playground antics where nobody is willing to take responsibility for their actions. Always pointing fingers instead.

This is hardly a return to the troubles. If you think the troubles ever really went away then there is some serious delusion that needs addressing

Got a hearty LOL from me, so I made this.

I think you're onto something.

:D

Got an anthem for the fleg off an old mate of mine

"We're Nesbitt till we die!! The fleg will ne'er fly!! Jimmy Nesbitt, Jimmy Nesbitt took off with our fleg!!" :D

I would suddenly take some form of norn irish nationality to sing that as an anthem...
