Road Cycling

Binned it on some icy road on thursday night!

Probably about 12mph I foolishly tapped the front brake as someone shouted "ice" and down I went sliding across the road, torn straight though my brand new winter kit so I now have £350 worth of holes in my tops.

Bike was ok but seat torn through, brake lever, pedal.

It was -3 and 10pm at night but a great ride in general though.

Had my first ride out on my own this morning(second ride this week) and covered the same route of 20 miles. Took pretty much the same time, although didn't have 2 people to draft from :p Enjoyed it, without a doubt :)

Also, impressed that Strava can still track GPS while on flight mode. Through the hour and 5 minutes today, my iphone 6S+ used 4% battery :D :D

My new pedals arrived yesterday morning too :) Although not tried any shoes yet so currently still using my bright yellow indoor football trainers and stock pedals :p

Urgh. Headed out hoping to do a moderately climby single speed ride. I'd done 6 miles and got out of town and hit dense fog. The drivers were too busy gargling balls to drive properly so I thought it best to abandon and head home rather than risk death. So I ended up with just a fairly dull 16 miles. Meh.

Got my Fizik R5B Road Shoes from Sigmasports ebay page today......beautiful shoes. £98. size wise spot on, no need to go up a size etc but very impressed with the quality of the shoes.

Knocked out a few miles today. First outing for the Vector 2s pedals. Set them up last night and it was pretty easy. Easier than I might have expected. The Wahoo Elemnt also worked quickly - quickly picks up all my sensors and is easy to configure via the app. Both purchases performed well! Very pleased .

DIadora Vortex Pro shoes I ordered from CRC will be going back though - the fit isnt right for me which is a shame as they are stiff as hell and were cheap.

Finally did a good deed. Saw a bloke pushing his bike down the side of quite a busy road. He was walking back home after a couple of mechanicals and had a puncture. I think the poor bloke had given up so we pulled over, fixed his puncture, trimmed up his gears and go him on his way. Better than the 6 mile walk back he was planning!

So its the time of year at my company to get free 'fitness' stuff...

Wheels - Cosmic Elite or Fulcrum Racing Quattro LG
Power Meter - Stages or 4iii
Garmin - Went for the 25, I already have a 1000, so I'll give it away

Any advice on the wheels or power meter would be appreciated.

Have these too though ideally should have gone half a size smaller myself. Boa-dials ftw though.

Think I will try another manufacturer for 2017 as impressions of other shoes (despite very good reviews for the R5B) seem to be better.

Couldn't fault the Fizik's though :) other than the insoles being pap. So I'd recommend getting some with more support as it's a total transformation and you'll feel much more connected to the pedal & cranks

Neither :p

Feel free to sell it on and I'll make up some numbers for you instead. :D

Cheers Pal, That good are they then?

I'll go for the stages then, as they seem easier to sell on, someone with a DA will want it.

What about wheels? I'm edging the Fulcrums and they must be better that the standard issue Bontragers I have.

Have to make the decision by Monday 5pm PST.

Stages is definitely the more resellable option - you could put the money towards a single sided Vector setup if you do want to ride with power. I've just heard too many problems about both 4iiii and Stages.

I'm assuming the criticism of Stages/4iiii is because they're left-sided only? As long as you appreciate the limitations of being left-only then there's not really anything wrong with either of them.

edit: and I thought the main issues with Stages were resolved with a newer revision? Both Stages and 4iiii have been through a couple of iterations now
