Robot Wars returning to BBC2!

Battlebots felt like the fake reality TV shows, the 'rivalries' appeared forced and acted terribly. The robots also seemed overly complicated, many had sponsors and I'm not surprised.

Really enjoyed doing the show and would love to build a new bot with the tech there is now. It did get expensive towards the end of the tv series though.

...You had a robot? Wow, we really need more details, do you have any pics?

Maybe you could get together with Building Candy and build a Robocop Cain robot for this new series.

:D

Guys, take a gander at this :-)

It's a contemporary programme called Robo Challenge and they hold the contests in the NEC. The robots are more brutal than the 1990s Robot Wars, often weighing in at 100kg, more like the size of house robots!

Granted, there are still flippers, but you also get to see hammers, pincers, circular saws, drums, lifting forks (that lift other others) amongst other weapon types :D

it was great back when it started.

mortis being quite possibly the most expensive robot that was in the series. £10k. there are going to be robots costing 10x that now and it will jsut not be fun.

i remember watching the first sremech. was awesome i was screaming like england had won the world cup lol. cassius after getting flipped by sir killalot. cassius was the best robot on the show i reckon. even had a mechanism to escape the pits.

im sure the limit was 100kg on the old series. and most robots came close to it.

Always enjoyed this when it was on - I'll definitely take a look when it's re-launched, it'll be really interesting to see how the robots move on given all the advances in technology and robots!

Not all that much; you not watched Battlebots?

meh, that my idea out f the window :( (rules from bbots, but wars will be similar)

Prohibited Weapons
The following weapon types are not allowed under any circumstances:
• Fouling devices such as glue, nets, fishing line, ball bearings and such.
• Squirting liquids or liquefied gasses such as liquid Nitrogen.
EMP generators or other means intended to damage or jam the opponent bot’s electronics.
• Deliberate smoke generators.
• Bright lights, lasers, etc., that are distracting or dangerous to vision.
Weapons that damage the other bot by destroying themselves.

As long as it doesn't turn into the flip based winners from the american show (from memory) then i'm for it. I want more razors!

I always remember The Beast of Bodmin for some reason.

Also that yellow four wheeled one that was so powerful at pushing others about? Or was it red?

Whatever happened to the guy that built Cassius? If I remember rightly he competed in the first 3 seasons and then fell off the planet. Was a shame as it was an amazing bot.

Rex (Garrard?) was his name. IIRC, he said he wanted to step back and let younger competitors have a go.
