Rome 2 : Total War

My bad, thanks for pointing out my stupid :)

Cheers, I appreciate the honesty. I think I'll keep an eye on the Daily Deals thread until this rears it's head on there for sub £20 :)

I'd still buy it if you like the series although admittedly my experience has been mainly problem free.

The AI does suck balls though and a lot of units are fairly unbalanced so it can be frustrating at times.

It just depends how forgiving you are with these things or whether you have a tendency to RAAAAAGGEEEEEE!!!!

Hopefully it'll get better as time goes on. :)

I know that I'll eventually pick it up, I'd just rather have a finished game to play. I do tend to RAAAAGGEEEE when something weird happens! Unless an upcoming patch makes the experience a hell of a lot better I think the wallet will stay hidden for a while :)

To be honest, the game is fine - a bit rough around the edges (as all the total war games have been on release) but the only really bad things currently are.

1. AI turn speed - after a while the main campaign starts to go really slow, I've began exterminated all cultures around me as quickly as possible just so they get skipped earlier during the AI turn.

2. Mutiplayer Coop AI turn speed - like the above, but about 15 times worse.

The odd graphics bug & imbalance aside the game is in a playable state, just requires refining.

As mentioned above, the Radius mods help with a few of the above - but they just need to find a way around the AI turn speeds.

Does anyone know when the game ends?

Or in other words how many turns?

I recommend the Radious mod pack mentioned earlier, it cuts the stupidly long research times by about 25% for higher level tech.

I've been doing this to the minor factions too, for the exact same reason.

It's also a factor in why I'm hesitant to set up trading with new cultures further away than my immediate sphere of influence - i don't want their trade routes to open up new parts of the map.

For me it doesn't end until I've wiped every other faction from the map. :D

Graphically it looks pants, hopefully going to be fixed in patching soon though. It's really hit and miss, personally I can't recommend buying it just now but the game does play reasonably well and it is improving as the patches come in.

Really hard to recommend though - until they've sorted the graphics out a bit I'd personally say wait until later in the year and try to get it on sale.

I've never played a TW game before  but after seeing a few vids on youtube this looks great. I had a quick go on the Shogun 2 demo last night which was a lot of fun. Should I start with Shogun 2 then pick this up later or is Rome 2 still a better game ?

Start with Shogun if it's your first game and come to Rome later once the bugs have been ironed out.

I think a bit of nostalgia around the first Rome game is required to be able to look past a lot of the deficiencies in Rome 2.

I read somewhere that there are no turn limitations in campaign this time around, so you keep going until you finish your primary objective.

Cool sounds like a plan just need to find the Gold edition from a CD Key shop all are the standard so far.

200-250 turns should enable you to complete one of the objectives - military victory / economic etc i think.

Thanks, i'm just playing this campaign as a familiarization exercise, but it's good to know how long I have left. Why did they remove the 'turns left' feature?

I read on TWC some guy thought they released the game 65% finished and that's why stuff like guard mode was left out, they were under pressure from SEGA to get it out pre-chrimbo and before the new consoles were out

Looking at the game that makes sense, it's clearly not finished.

Spent more time this weekend playing and have no intention of moving on any time soon.

I'm really enjoying it. I added a couple of the Radious mods and they really enhanced it for me. Some of the diplomacy is a little iffy and I had a bug with invading ships not letting troops off (so I had to wait the battle out to win) but have had a few epic combats.

I decided to restart as Rome and I'm going to take care of Gaul and Britain now that I've taken all of mainland Italy/Corsica/Sicily - then I'm headed east, where Sparta have slaughtered everyone they've come into contact with. I think they might be a bit tastier than some of the wimps I encountered in Northern Italy.

Well, I have played a total of 24 hours now, and am on about turn 80 (194BC).

I have not encountered any crashes yet.

What I have noticed though is how the AI love it's slinger units. I just fought a battle with Ardiaei and out of a force size of 20 they must have had 15 slinger units. Anyone else finding the same?

I started off as Rome (House of Cornelia). I have not had a civil war yet, but am looking forward to that!

The Radious mods have made the game much better, the whole battle map seems to be a lot more fluid for me, and the battles do go on much longer.

Sparta are pretty beastly, I'm playing as Sparta and I'm getting my ass kicked by Sparta. :p

Yep, slingers and spear infantry.

They always seem to run a couple of slinger units out to the side as well for no apparent reason so they get quickly wiped out be my cavalry.

Does anyone else notice the AI keeping their armies in the sea around their city? In my battles against the Irish and Brittany both countries kept the entirety of their army in the sea which then lands to try and repel my forces from their city but I can often get into the city centre before they all have time to land. I've taken to kindly allowing them to land just so the battle is fairer!

Ah, bugger. After saying I haven't had a crash it now won't go past a certain point. I am at the end of turn 86 and it just keeps freezing up. I have tried to reload several times now, but when the AI is taking its go it always gets to the faction Muscat and then locks up.

Anyone know of anything I can do? Guessing the save is fubar'd, but live in hope!
