Rome 2 : Total War

I'm loving the game. I decided to play Rome (to continue on from the prologue really) but instead of going north I've headed south and West into Africa & Spain. Half military but actually more focussed on economy.

One thing I've noticed is it's very difficult to keep abreast of the territories and who owns them. This was easier in Rome/M2 as I could send out single light cav units into the wilderness to scout ahead - now I have to send my whole army out which is quite unrealistic IMO. Can't even field enough Spies for it :(

This isn't just to find the cities, mind, but also to update my map on who owns them as they seem to change hands often!

Getting into this now. The AI can be really silly at times, also the coop turn time is atrocious waiting for all the AI states to get their turn.

Yes in Co-Op the turn times are completely silly at the moment - upwards of 5-7 minutes per turn, but it can only improve... maybe...

My friend and I completed 6 turns in just under 2 hours last night and both of us were consolidating conquests, so really we actually did very little, tweak tax, tweak dilplomacy, alter edict, recruit units end turn... :o

I dont' have this issue - does your Diplomacy view not update with the owners of each territory? Mine does. I am pretty sure the Tactical View updates as well. Or is it a line of sight thing? I have trade routes all over the map, so they might be helping me keep an eye on everything.

I think that's what it is and it's probably a fairly realistic representation of how news would have travelled in those days.

Yeah that must be it. I though it would auto update but I get there to find it's actually owned by someone else. I have trade routes, but not in the areas I'm attacking at the moment. I will have to see if I can bribe their neighbours and set some up purely for administrative purposes!

My mate and I tried to play some custom multiplayer battles last night for the first time. My game crashed first battle then desync for the next 5 attempts. Anyone know of a fix? We got it a lot on the first day but he was at mine and over LAN but they disappeared. Was infuriating last night as my mate and I play us 2 vs 3 cpu at very hard. Only way to get a challenge and the fear of possibly losing!

Lols, after manually getting my dlc code from amazon through a lot of customer service contact (saturday), i just got an email (today, monday, 3 days later) from them containing a new dlc code for the same pack, lols, what good is it to me now??

Yeah never seen a forum site so slow like their's is, but seriously, some very good information is on there, if you can bear the wait.

I checked it to see how slow it loads (this thread) on my fast connection and you can see for yourself below. At least at the moment the page loading is quite a bit faster than Rome II turn times if that's any consolation to many a weary soul here ;)

I read on TWC some guy thought they released the game 65% finished and that's why stuff like guard mode was left out, they were under pressure from SEGA to get it out pre-chrimbo and before the new consoles were out

Looking at the game that makes sense, it's clearly not finished.

I'd read through that thread and many others, there was only speculation and unfounded allegations, it was closed after the mods let it run its course.

Another quick check on the forums has turned up this amusing video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdpIENG0Y2k

It was definitely unfinished. There are HDR and tessalation options in the graphics files, yet no option in the graphics menu...? Shogun 2 has tessalation so god knows why they took it out.

Also, just look at the desktop shortcut icon! There was a great meme like picture showing the desktop icon for Shogun 2 (all hi res and neat) and then the Rome 2 one with something like " how tell when a developer has rushed their game". Wish i could find it again :D

Darn it. Started a war with Carthage. That was a dull idea so early on. Now also have Libya backing them up. They have armies that mine can't even touch so early in the game.

Finding the economy to be much tougher in this total war.

I think I need to adjust to the slower pace of this one. Trying to expand far too quickly.

I'm also getting weird issues during battles now.

Defending an invasion from sea, all of a sudden it looked as though the fps had plummeted to 5fps but I could move the camera normally as if it was running 60fps. All the soldiers animations looked like stop-motion animation on go slow mode. Trying to speed up the game made no difference at all either!

+1 having to balance money and food seem to be my issues just now and staying on the right side of the neighbours. Playing as Iceni so it's not too hard early on but my god those Welsh are easily worked up :D
