Rome 2 : Total War

Is co-op campaign something you sit down for a few hours and do or is it a game that lasts for weeks where you wait for your buddy to take the turns of his armies/factions?

It typically takes longer than a single player campaign would as you do have to wait for the other player to take their turn.

In battles, if you have an army/navy within reinforcing distance of your co-op partner you can both control your own forces in the battle.

If not, you can elect to "gift" units of your army to your co-op partner during the battle for them to control (ie give them all the cavalry or similar).

In shogun 2 it works very well, I have yet to try co-op properly in Rome 2, having far too many other issues with the game :(

DavidtheDuke posted this on Total War forum, worked for me.

"On a thread I found on reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/totalwar/com...ith_fps_drops/

"I had huge fps drops and this made the game playable for me.
Just change the affinity of the rome2.exe process in "task manager" to anything less than all processors press ok and then change it back. This removes the drops for me.
For some reason this seems to spread the load evenly among the cores for me where as previously one was used to 100% while others where hardly being utilized.
Hope this will help some others.
Edit: some further explaination provided by seriousdan: "Open your task manager with ctrl+shift+ESC, go to processes, right-click the rome2.exe process and click on "set affinity..."."

You can find other optional tweaks on their website here. I did all of them but changed back to dx11, got everything running nice and smooth now. I also have my graphics similar to this guy on YouTube which helps a lot.

Thanks! I'll give that a try later. Campaign map is giving me shocking FPS drops occasionally down to 11 or 12! Not even playing on anywhere near the highest settings.

Till the game looks and plays like this im not touching it.

It looks and plays like crap whatever preset i choose. Pop in is terrible.
Im trying it after every patch but still shockingly bad looking and stutters

With a mixture of high-very high-ultra settings. Game runs very good for me now. Perfect "no", playable "hell yer". Campaign map now performs much better. (Shogun 2 campaign map ran just as bad at launch.)

Either you don't have the power to make the game perform at the settings you have picked, your not running patch 3 or you have some other incompatibility issue. Or like most the nutters on CA forums are you expecting to just run everything on extreme because the setting is there.

I've been watching this thread and the main forum since release and the amount of people who are crying over performance and then post system spec and settings. Its no wonder there running 3 fps.

Don't get me wrong the game still has lots of optimization left in it, that really needs to be taken care of and an improvement to multi threading code.

Some of you need to take the shogun 2 rose tinted glasses off, the game launched looking as bad if not worse than Rome 2, No dx11 support for weeks no AA support for weeks. Look at how well that game turned out. (I remember the first few days on the official board. people was talking about law cases and everything "I want my AA and DX11 and I want it now")

People need to chill a bit. No baby's was hurt in the making of Rome 2. CA are focused on fixing these issues. No DLC will be launched before the game is where it should be. Everyone is working flat out to improve the Rome experience.

My system spec I5 2500k @4.2ghz, 8gig of ram, 580gtx @stock res 1920x1200 I use the settings above high-very high and ultra. I get average 45fps plus on campaign map. With 30-60fps in battle. Pre patches I was getting about 5fps on campaign map and no more than 25fps in large battles.

Its heading in the right way. Instead of everyone whinging get behind them.

The same could be said of all their preview stuff including Rome 1... Always take previews as a "jist". CA aren't the only ones that do it.

But the gameplay video(s) in question, unless I'm mistaken:-
1) Shows cool features supposedly in the game, that are no longer in the game at release?
2) Many people would have bought the game on the power/hype of those sort of videos and features being demo'd as being in the game?

Yeah, it sucks I agree.
Don't forget that quote from CA a couple pages back where they said that they removed features they didn't think would increase review scores...
What a sucky policy >_>

Still no word on why the preview video from a year ago seemingly shows stuff not in the actual release?

I wouldn't expect an answer to be honest, feels like a SEGA-ism, due to the same thing happening with Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Great tech demo, drive up preorders through the roof, keep quiet on release

Nope, you clearly dont have a clue about what you are talking about

Scroll to the carthage historical battle bench at very high quality

shocking.

It is well documented that the game runs like absolute ****. There is simply no way you are getting what i deem playable framerates ( above 30fps) in 20 vs 20 siege battles.

These benches show there is little difference between running a 7870 or a titan in the game as well -

Also, there is no excuse for the MSAA and DX 11 features they had fixed in Shogun 2 to suddenly disappear from this release. We are supposed to see progression in a sequel, not regression.

On the plus side, unless they capture a lot of regions, they can't afford to keep their armies going for tens of turns - hold them off and they start to suffer. Let them get a foothold and you're stuffed :D

You need to quickly disband your remote armies and raise new forces at the location of their spawn. Hire mercs to stave off the first few attacks and start rebuilding your armies there. Don't move them back or by the time they get there your land will be gone.
