Rome 2 : Total War

Loving this, not having any of the issues other people seem to be having. I'm not sure if I am seeing the performance issues but I'm just not as anal as some people or if I'm just legitimately not having issues though.

Do have one question though, how on earth do you split an army up? Trying to take a couple of units from an army and it seems to be impossible :S

All armies now need an actual general(as opposed to just a random unit leading it). So if you want to take a couple of units out of an army you need to recruit a brand new general and send swap the units from your first general to the new guy.

That combined with a limit on the amount of generals you can own makes the game very annoying, although probably more tactical and realistic.

Can anyone else with a Haswell not use DRA?

I can't use it either but the directx fix posted above has worked for me.Gained about 20fps or so and game looks better for sure.

Just need SLI support.:p

My first total war so i suck at the moment. :D

Screenshot: (looks better no?be good if they can fix the AF and make textures view better from further range due to it)

Well bit of a mixed bag this one... First impressions were man, it runs like a dog and looks old and why such poor performance when it looks like a game from 2004..!!

Few tweaks and these settings -

Anti-aliasing: on
Texture quality:Ultra
Texture filtering: x16
Shadows: low
Water: Extreme
Sky: Extreme
Shader model 5
Particle effects: very high
Vegetation alpha off
Unit size: ultra
Building details: very high
Unit details: low (doesnt make a difference visually and uses cpu)
trees: extreme
Grass: Extreme
Terrain: ultra
Depth of field: off
SSAO: on

Managed to get a reasonable 40fps average, but can still drop below 30fps but overall better and i've also tweaked the ingame gamma which for me was way too high.

Its not the best looking game, in fact its not good looking at all. But gameplay is good but Rome Total War was better for me, or at least I remember Rome Total War being better then the second.

Hmmm sure it'll get some patches but overall, not overly impressed but it'll grow on me.

Has it improved your fps at all?

P.S. do you actually own a Corvette irl? Niceee. Niceeeeee.

Yes it did, improved fps for me and a little bit more detail. The AA and textures seem poor to me still.

For those of you who didn't see the fix I posted, look here (it's easy)

Mate and I tried to have a few co-op campaign games - seems that after the first battle it goes **** up - neither of us being able to move and showing a different faction having the current turn forever. happened in 3 campaigns so it seems like that is broken. Anyone had any better luck yet?

Good game though, great being able to gift certain elements of your army to the other player, unfortunately it all goes bang shortly after returning to the campaign map. Bah.

This game is brilliant, But you need a very powerful machine to run it on max with AA. The game now uses 4 cores but based on my experience so far only really saturates the 1st core at 100% followed by 50% use on the 3 other cores. (4.7Ghz Ivy)

The sound is better than previous TW games, the animations are brilliant and the use of shields for cover and projectiles such as sling shots and spears is just fantastic. Spears penetrate the shields and combatants raise the shields with the spears attached awesome.

There is a cinematic feature so you can get the perspective of a cavalry rider or foot soldier's direct view whilst charging or throwing javelins, it is amazing and very very well done.

I use an ivy clocked to 4.7GHz and a 7950 clocked at 1170Mhz and the game runs at 35 fps in the games integrated bench mark run at max settings everywhere 4xAA..

I can understand peoples complaints because at lower resolution and settings this game looks pants. So you need a great machine to play this great game.

Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai was a great game this IMO is far better but you need power!!!

Ive spent 5-6 hours tonight playing and the game is as good as I though it was gonna be.............I really expected Single core usage again and for the fact CA have started to code for multicore I fully commend them. It does need patching and optimising, but you still need a beast to play this the way its meant to be played by the developer.........

Definitely going to try this fix, on a fresh format too so hopefully that'll boost a little more fps. Man that's a nice Corvette, they look stunning in blue or silver! Nvidia TITAN of the motorworld. :D

They need to fix the Xfire issues.

And on another note, I don't like how they changed how armies work (raise under a general, can't split up etc). The simplification of things such as building upgrades are stupid aswell..

But apart from that, really good game.

Enjoying the game so far, have no performance issues on my i5 2500k with ATI 7950 at extreme/ultra settings. Solid 40fps.

But, anyone have any idea how to get the game to run on an Dell Inspiron with HD4000/Radeon 8730m switchable graphics. No matter what power/performance settings I use can't get the game to recognise the 8730m. Its just about playable on the HD4000 so should be playable enough if only the 8730m would work. Any ideas?

Right! Enough is enough. I need to go to bed now.

Must say I'm loving the game so far and don't really mind the new general system.

Apart from one instance of slowdown I'm having no issues with this at all and really enjoying it. Just played 3 hours straight which is rare for me. I have it all at extreme with a 670 & 4670k and it runs very well.

Good game so far for me.....
