Rome 2 : Total War

Get the feeling that graphics drivers are going to play a part in any fix, I'll be sticking to other games until this is sorted out ! :)

Nice that they've got some form of Logitech G19 support, just wondering what it'll actually show during the campaign..

The issue for me is crossfirex related. Switching to windowed mode fixes the texture flickering. Problem is that Shogun 2 had a similar issue and that was never resolved on the 6990 :(

Nothing to do with the performance of my 670 in this game. It is ALL about some cpu bug. As soon as there are a lot of units or clashing units gpu usage can go as low as 36% !!!

Graphics look amazing and run amazing ....if you are just looking at a couple of units.

Downloading now , really liked the first one , but these mixed reviews even from die hard fans and making me think its a mistake i bought this . lets hope it isnt.

same with every TW game using this engine.

if they havent fixed it by now then they never will.

with shogun ive seen my gpu usage go <20%!

Thing is most of the bugs will be sorted just frustrating that we're having them at all. To be blunt as it stands I can't get the game to look better than a really poor console port.

I'm a die hard TW fan so that's quite a difficult addmission to make :D

I have never had it as bad as Rome 2 though. I dont understand what CPU they run their preview videos on : /. They seem to have loads of units fighting without framerates in the teens.

Also this is the first Total War that actually seems to use all 4 cores quite a lot! Yet it runs worse than any of the others!

At the Penny Arcade Expo they were giving away this spec:

Intel DX79SR Desktop Motherboard (Stormville)
Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme Processor @ 3.30GHz
8GB PC3-10600 DDR3 @ 1333MHz
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 680 2GB
Intel 520 Series – 180GB SATA 6Gb/s SSD

Not sure if that was just a giveaway or if it's what they were actually using to demo Rome II.

I never had a huge issue with previous TW games, I'm not one to get hung up on graphics too much, I love MTW2 but this one seems strangely ugly, textures flickering and just generally poor which is why I have a feeling it'll be partly fixed by an Nvidia/ATI driver update rollout.

Lads, try this. I gave it a whirl and a few other are reporting minor success.

my game looked like that (extreme): http://s1.directupload.net/file/d/3369/xt2dh3uj_jpg.htm

Now i installed the directX version from the game (go to your Rome 2 folder -->redist-->directx-->DXSETUP.EXE

and now it looks better:

the fps increase from 25 to 45 on my AMD 7970GHz Edition.

Maybe it is useful....

sry for bad english...

this worked for me i went from 50-60fps on my custom settings, on default extreme i gained 15 more fps - GTX660

Went from 8 to 18fps on extrame. 30 to 50 in medium. Somebody, get this guy a beer. Thanks OP.

It must not be set to update auto on install.

Dont understand why your still posting?
You havent played ANY of the games, you havent got this one, you dont know anything about it...
Dont get the point.

it was part of todays patch.

The point is easy to spot, he couldn't afford it and is now crying about a game he's never played, from a series of games he has never played. It doesn't take a lot to work out his problem.

If he could afford it, he wouldn't have the patience to learn the subtleties anyway.

I've been playing since 11 AM and have only just forced myself to switch it off.

I love it.

:D

Don't you think you're being a little childish..... I've played the game and it really is not that bad. Sure it has faults but every game does, Rome total war did. No need to **** it off so much and then have a go at someone who actually enjoyed playing it....

Bingo!

The guy is an moron. My guess is he couldn't afford it and is jealous and is trying to make himself feel better.
