Rome 2 : Total War

Someone? PLEASE?

HELLO NEIL.

4v4 IS THE MAX

Have all the people playing on extreme tried a big historical battle yet, and zoomed into the action or pressed space bar ??? Or are they reporting findings in campaign games with smaller battles so far? Also is it true that all this talk of extreme graphics is bs since lots of people say that the game scales back automatically and that you are not on extreme ??????

Thanks...

That sucks :( Even old Rome would allow 6 vs 1 AI :(

I think the only issue I have is that I had watched videos like this and unless I'm going crazy, the textures look much more detailed and less jaggies?

I'm running on extreme with i5 @ 4ghz, 560Ti sli with 8gb ram. I know there is yet to be drivers and optimisation, but the video is much better in my opinion?

I know there are always bugs and issues on day 1 of a TW release but I'm quite surprised at the quantity of negativity. There seem to be a LOT of niggles and problems, and those battle speeds are absolutely ridiculous. I am glad I held off buying it. I guess i'll have to wait for the mods to appear in a year or so :(

By the way I thought it was very interesting to see steam offering it at £29.99 today. Hmm...

Yeah I was expecting epicness like in that early video too. I think it is another case of Aliens vs Predator where the early video was not representative of the final game. After that I vowed to never trust preordering and this proves yet again that publishers lie through their back teeth.

The sad fact is that you cannot get refunds for PC games either, which is totally wrong in my opinion when there is no demo to be had. I have been waiting SO long for this game too :( Let's hope in a few months the modders can do some wonders.

I think EA are now doing a moneyback guarantee for games you buy through origin. So if you buy Sim City and find it doesn't work you should be able to get your cash back. Doesn't help here though.

I'd give it a 7/10 after playing for 3 hours, but maybe that's the problem with a lot of the reviews and posts so far. I'm enjoying it, but my expectations were higher from Shogun 2 which to be fair my last experience was fully patched and a year after release. Also that video shows a very different game graphically.

Patience might turn this into an 8 or 9 for me. It's not a bad game, just lacks polish at this stage. I had the same experience with BF3 until a month after and all the patches sorted me graphical problems.

That video is total and complete ********. The battles are NOTHING like that at all. The battles are not epic, they're over in 5 minutes and are lousy blob fests. They talk about grit etc, and there's no blood...

It's almost unanimous.

The map is beautiful, the new diplomacy is really good, the new Indy factions are fantastic, but the 'battles' are Total W**k.

Get the feeling we'll be relying on the mod community to pull something epic from this game as they've done before, it's a shame the devs themselves can't manage it from day 1 though.

I'm worried about how this will affect the franchise if there isn't some form of fix in the next week or so.

Metacritic is the same, they've given it a 81 or something but user reviews have scored it a 6.2. Nearly every negative comment is based on battles. Probably something modders can fix in time though.

Apologies for butchering your post, but I think these two lines sum it up for me at the moment (considering I've had a similar amount of gametime).

I also get the feeling that, on the strategy front, there is an awful lot more I need to learn - and I'm keen to learn it! I have many hours of play left before I feel like I know the game. I really need to get some big pitched battles under my belt, though, before I can really comment on the battles side (which I accept is vital to a review of the game!).

Well, it's always the mod community that gives you the game you want, but the battles are so bad it's laughable. It could be months and months before we get something like Darth (he's retired) or Stainless Steel, or YEARS AND YEARS before Rome Total Realism (IMO it'll never happen).

It's annoying because I like a lot of the game, but the battles are a waste of time.

I haven't really had a chance to get into the battles, my time went into trying to get a decent frame rate and graphics quality last night, which in the end I failed to get!

>>>They're rubbish mate. Total rubbish.

As a 10 year TW vet I'm hugely disappointed with them. They were far better in Rome 1 a TEN YEAR OLD GAME. Battles reached their high point in Medieval 2 went downhill in Shogun and these are even worse.

The strategy element for a vanilla TW game is very good so far. It's like half a very good game and half a POS.

:(

Ok apart from some of the aesthetics I moaned about having got used to everything in the campaign I am enjoying so far. Its actually pretty good. The diplomacy is very good.

However like people are saying, the battles are complete and utter garbage. Therefore you can only say that the game is a complete failure. Without epic battles the game is worthless.

I enjoyed all the other total wars vanilla, no matter the issues. However to be on the 2nd day of release and auto-resolving all the battles is the lowest of my RTS playing days.

I was gutted with Company heroes 2, how could screw it up so much. Then CA go and do the same with Rome.

I can see why they did no demo this year.

Thing is, the battles would be fine if they just did a quick 1kb update buffing every units morale... Bet they won't though, they're a very lazy developer.
