Rooney - 2 B Sold

Like the ridiculous amount of trophies he's got and the amazingly high profile career that Ferguson has given him?
That's all in the past now though isn't it? If Rooney is speaking about signing a long term contract with Man Utd, then in return for his loyalty it's entirely resonable to expect the clubs ambitions to match his own.

Utd are no longer an elite club. they are simply a stepping stone. possibly the biggest of stepping stones, but we are not a final destination.

we cant guarantee silverware, or even that we will compete for silvers (this will get worse next season and beyond)

we cant offer the huge wages being thrown around by City, Chelsea, Real or Barca

we cant guarantee world class signings to bolster the team

What can we offer? Well the best offer Fergie can make to a player is that "I can make you famous" to quote young guns 2. yes we can make players famous and high profile enough to get the dream move to their final destination which is usually Real or Barca or something.

few players come to UTD to enjoy their peak and retire. Infact the only one i can think of out of the last 10 years is Rio, and even he hasnt actually retired yet. OT isnt the final destination it is simply a stepping stone to move on to spanish and greater things:(

its a sad fact folks. But when you sign nothing but youth and mediocrity across the pitch what else can be said? we went from having possibly the most fearsome strike force ever seen in england, or even europe; Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez... to simply Rooney...+ Berbatov...and i mean i have been pretty vocal about players like oshea, carrick etc...when you turn up for a huge match as wayne rooney and you see that oshea is on the same teamsheet, when you could move elsewhere and play with kaka, the german, ronaldo... or somewhere else with tevez, silva, a great central mdifield and defence, or maybe somewhere with lampard, essien, malouda etc... there is no comparison whatsoever.

Exactly.

Why pigeon-hole yourself into a long term contract with a club who's position at the top of world football for the next few years is not known.

Fergie is going soon, Who's coming in to replace him?
VDS, Giggs, Scholes retiring in the next 18 months (probaly)

City's future at the top level of football is in more doubt than Man Utd's, namely because a) they've never actually been there b) if they want to play in the CL they have to stop spending. Without the ability to spend further, they're nothing besides a joke club with a bunch of mercenaries like Adebayor, Rooney and Balotelli.

Manchester United are a massive club in terms of English, European and World football.

I can't see him moving out side of the English league either, he doesn't strike me as the type of person who would adopt well.

He's not got the best relationship with the media. He's off form. Drinking and smoking more if rumours are to be believed and less fit then previous seasons. The next Gazza?

Rooneys statment is NOTHING but an absolute lie.

There are one maybe two teams bigger than Manchester united in world football. They will win trophies still, even without rooney.

I think the real reason is his wife wants him out of Manchester ASAP and especially away from certain united players. Was it not rio that introduced rooney to the famous prostitute?

Well this is panning out just as I thought. Here is my take on what has happened. At the end of last season Rooney really thought he was all that. The next George Best had finally arrived, a working class lad turned into the next footballing superstar. The cracks were there for all to see though. The talk around town was that he was out a lot of nights on the lash, a lot more than what was being reported in the papers and a lot more indiscretions than also reported.

But now its all unravelling for him. He's fearing that the story will break over the world cup and has a stinker. He takes that poor form into the start of the season and the real story breaks about him being caught with his pants round his ankles.

Now its all Utd's lack of ambition for his poor form, phantom ankle injury being caught with a whore, cheating on his wife and being maligned by his team mates. Instead of admitting he is partly to blame and saying he will work through it regain his form and sort his life out he decides to go for the cheap option.

Just another scouser kissing the badge on his chest, it means **** all. Fergie in his speech yesterday was masterclass and played everyone like a tune. Could Rooney really come out and criticise him ??? Of course not, his only option was to criticise the club. Either way Fergie wins. Either the Glazers buy some big names (Which they can't) and/or Rooney does **** off which put's pressure on the Glazers to deliver the money.

When he goes to City, thanks for the memories Wayne. The only thing that matters in Waynes world is Wayne. I personally don't think he will ever pull on the shirt again. Good riddance to him if he doesn't want to play for us. Give me players who want to play for the club through thick and thin.

RIP Wayne Rooney - Another one of footballs mercenaries

So if it's true then I assume he'll be off to the club which is running a healthy profit with a long term sustainable business model, look for him at Arsenal in January  :p

Maybe this, if he wants a London club that is financially secure for now and the future and who will be able to secure him a future at a high level of football then I suppose Arsenal would take him.

^ he beat me

Why should any professional footballer be loyal to any club? The clubs are generally run for profit, owned by profit seeking shareholders and the clubs/managers will dump the players if they see fit.

No one cares when Man United ship out some young lad who has been at the club since he was 5. No one raises the ethical question on the initial purchase of players like Rooney and Ronaldo. One might consider leaving Everton for United to be a some what 'mercenary' move. How could Ronaldo possibly leave Sporting Lisbon? (or whoever it was) after they gave him his chance? Surely he should have stayed at Lisbon and helped them build into a better club? You get the picture.

The talk from fans, players and clubs is utterly cheap. Hypocrits the lot of you.

Clubs will find away around the financial rules that are planned. Take my club for instance (and I know we have no chance of CL football, it's just an example of how to avoid/cheat the rules). Sign a player and offer him £40,000 a week wages. BET 365 (Owned by Stoke's chairman) then decide to offer the player a job as the face of the company with very little work for 5 million per annum. The player gets what he wants, the club get what they want and Platini can whistle. Clubs will find a way of offering incentives to satisfy players without breaching the rules.

Rooney is an idiot. So much so, he will probably be so stupid that he will sign for Man City.

Just watch his career take a nosedive and turn into turmoil. Whatever he does.

*I am not a Man U or City fan btw, I support Reading FC*

but ronaldo didnt come out and say that he wanted to leave in the middle of a season did he? we bid for him and made an offer that was relatively lucrative for a youngster that sporting just couldnt turn down.

keaving everton to go to UTD was a move that he needed to do to be able to win trophies. again we bid so much that they had no option but to release. it wasnt that he came out and stated he wanted to leave and left his contract to run down...

thats why your examples arent as relevant to this particular situation.
