Rooney - 2 B Sold

I think you actually described the Valencia year as 'a bunch of nobodies' so Ferguson's an average man manager (implicit) who's signed a bunch nobodies...

i actually said:

"2009 - some nobodies, the best of the bunch is valencia. who would struggle to hold down a place in the team of any top 4 team apart from UTD where he is the no.1 right winger."

"Zoran Tošić (undisclosed, Partizan Belgrade)
Adem Ljajic (undisclosed, Partizan Belgrade)
Ritchie Ria Alfons de Laet (undisclosed, Stoke City
Luis Antonio Valencia Mosquera (undisclosed, Wigan Athletic)
Michael James Owen (free, Newcastle United)
Gabriel Obertan (£3m, Bordeaux)
Mame Biram Diouf (undisclosed, Molde)"

obertan, tosic, latijic, de laet, diouf... even with M. Owen, its not like a Torres and big Mach signing is it?

out of all these signings who plays regularly in our first team.. as right none of them. but we have already established that our first choice midfield, i.e carrick?! and other expensive signings arent good enough.. so we have supplemented them by signing even worse players (for less cash)...to dimish the overall quality of our squad even further?

The absolute best player in each position? When is the last time we signed the absolute BEST player in each position then? What a football manager generation point of view.

exactly. thats my point. we dont sign the best of anything. the other richer clubs do. Rooney wants to go somewhere that signs the best players not a load of dross - as we did. you can understand his frustration surely?

Dannyjo I've read that again and while I disagree strongly with you (and will expand when I get home) I still wa quite rude so for that I apologise.

I didn't take offence but accepted graciously all the same :)

True story this, when he played for Everton my little nephew bought me a England shirt with no 18 Rooney on the back as a wedding gift.

When he left under a cloud, a few days later I went for a run, jogging through a village along a highstreet and a car started shadowing me, the windows came down and for half a mile I had a bunch or bloke shouting judas **** at me. :D

It helped me pick my pace up :D

So when have we ever signed the best player in the world at the top of his game then? What year, what player?

arguably you would say that signing, Rio - as the best central defender in england?

Rooney as the best prospect in england?

tried with Ronaldinho, just about failed? tried with Veron but he was the wrong man for the job.

Now, we dont even sign the best player in england, let alone the best english players. which is why i detailed signings like Carrick, who we paid a pretty penny for, yet arent even part of the international first 11?

Rio... captain.. Rooney, no1 striker...carrick...left back at old trafford? (oops he actually got shirt 22 and barely got a sniff)

as a sign of the new mentality, we would rather throw down 6mill on Bebe than push the boat out and spend the extra on VdV for instance. he isnt the best in the world, but at least he gets into the international line up even as 2nd choice centre midfield, he is still miles better than carrick and 1/3 the cost!

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has spoken to Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney about joining him at Australian A-League club Perth Glory. (AP)
Where's a  smiley when you need one :p

While I find Holloway as pretty damn funny, he's shown himself to be incredibly out of touch with his rant.

Player power has been around for years and if he is, Rooney isn't the first nor will he be the last player to push through a deal. And to defend Fergie for being 'bullied' is pretty cringeworthy; how many times have Utd bullied other sides into selling their players against their wishes?

As a non man utd fan surely this "not bought anyone decent" sulk by Rooney is just an excuse for him. Who exactly was Utd supposed to sign in the transfer window? Two of the supposed targets, Villa and Ozil wanted did want to come to Man 'Utd and opted for Barca and Madrid. VDV was a last minute (or past last minute lol) after a deal broke down a bit before and Spurs stole in with a cheeky offer than real accepted. I would doubt very much that Real would have sold him to one of their big rivals for that little. So who/where else did Utd need to strengthen, surely losing the league on the last day of the season having a pretty much patched up defence for most of it didnt show a team in decline and lucky to get into the CL at the end of this season as some have mentioned. Should utd just go and spend money on a big star that wouldnt fit in the team just to show "how much money we can spend if we want", or should they wait to buy the right player that fits in the team and wants to join? Im no expert but spending money just to spend is foolish, and surely if Rooney stays and starts playing footy like we know he can, rather than spending time getting drunk and chasing women, then Utd would have more of a chance to win things.

lets put it this way, when i see Man Utd linked with Sneijder... 'i think, yea right, as IF'

when i see Man City linked with Sneijder i think, 'oh dear god pls no'

thats the difference. we have no ambition to sign these players because we cannot afford them. Sure, you dont have to own ALL of the best players to win things, teamwork, team spirit, system all help, but if you have 2 teams one that has the best players and has teamwork and tactics vs a 2nd best team that has teamwork, then surely 7-8 times out of ten, the team with the better players wins. its that simple.

There is no Buzz around OT, no indication that we are about to turn a corner and become hyper sucessful again. we are now the 3rd richest club... not in the world but in our own country in terms of being able to finance incoming signings.. this is terrible news for us.

Manchester United release statement to say...we have nothing to say.

Manchester United released the following statement after a day of meetings between chief executive David Gill, Sir Alex Ferguson and representatives of Wayne Rooney:

“We are aware that there is intense public and media interest on the club at the moment, but there are no developments of note to report today.

“I can confirm a number of meetings have taken place today, including with the player's representative. The outcome of those meetings will become clear in the near future. In the meantime, fans are asked to be patient.”

Well, that clears things up :P

Indeed, sounds to me that there is still a chance that'll he'll sign an extension. Suppose we'll find out soon enough. Even if he does, he's come out of this absolutely awfully.

Even if he does, he's come out of this absolutely awfully.

Unless you know for a fact that he's wanting to join City purely for $$$ then I don't see how he's done anything wrong.

A player has decided he doesn't want to sign a new deal at a club and wants out, he's not refused to play or behaved poorly. Just because he wants to leave Utd it doesn't make it any different to any other player wanting a transfer.

I thought saying that Ferguson and Man Utd don't match his ambition was incredibly short sighted and disrespectful. Also getting his people to spread rumours in the media which put mountains of pressure on the club that made him. Basically he's kicked up this ****storm for no sensible reason. I don't see why any of this was necessary and it certainly didn't need to enter the public domain months away from the nearest transfer window.

Also, it's plain to see that he has also not been giving 100% for United on the pitch recently, people have been saying it even before this news came out. That's also incredibly disrespectful considering his wages.

Also, contradicting Ferguson to the press knowing full well what he was doing, that was another low blow.

Edit - Also, his thoughts have not changed over night, if he felt that Utd didn't match his ambition for the last 2 months, what changed last night/today? Maybe a larger contract offer from Utd? I can't think of that much else, unless Utd have actually been held ransom by him and have agreed to change their transfer plans for him, though that seems unlikely. He doesn't control the club that much, you'd hope.
