Rooney - 2 B Sold

Does seem that he was convinced he was leaving, this could all be some kind of gentleman's agreement so that he can leave in the summer to a club of Man Utd's choice at a figure closer to his value. Can't see him having a future at the club, you can't burn your bridges this spectacularly and basically tell all your colleagues that they aren't good enough for you, then waltz in a week later with an enormous pay check, then expect them to get on with you.

It's ultimately down to the fans to change the way the game is. As long as enough people are paying for Sky, getting replica shirts and buying season tickets, then nothing will change.

And any fan funding their wages has no right to complain about how much they earn. If supporters took a stand against this it would change.

Anyway, this is for another thread.

Indeed, the only problem being you'll never get that unity amongst fans as ultimately half of them don't give a crap and will still watch the games and pay the money out

1) Rooney threatens to leave citing lack of ambition as his reason.
2) Phil and Fergie speak to Glazers about the very real possibility of not getting a sizeable transfer fee for him if he leaves.
3) Glazers promise squad investment at the summer transfer window.
4) Squad investment doesn't come.
5) Rooney now leaves for massive fee and the Glazers win, again.

Im glad that he is staying in theory but I can help but agree that there is more to this than meets the eye.

Either he has persuaded rooney to "respect the club" and leave the club for his full value in the future or there is something shady going on.

I have heard that united have a grammatically sound balaclava clad mob that we could send to the glazers residence.

Financially this could have been a disaster. We could have lost rooney for £5 million and had to spend £30+ million on his replacement. I can quite easily see ferguson making the glazers understand that we could spend that money on improving the squad in the summer rather than repairing rooney gap.

The only reason I don't think the below, that he's already set to leave in the summer for his proper fee, is that he would have little incentive to pick up his current form for the back end of the season. Hence why I've gone with the straight up lying yank ******** angle. At least this way they may get another good season out of him.

I don't think he was giving assurances about future transfers (because man u's financial situation has not changed), I think he just realised that he didn't have anywhere to go. Colleen wants to stay in the uk and chelsea aren't gonna blow money on massive transfers anymore so his only option would have been man city. He knew he would become a massive hate figure if he went there so took the improved wages they offered him at man u...

I genuinely feel like vomiting. I'm more angry now than when he said he was leaving!

I'm shocked at how shocked you are :p

This sort of thing has gone on for years and years. I remember when Shearer flirted with a move to Liverpool in order to get Newcastle to give him more money.

It's just the whole way the thing played out. It was nothing to do with teh squad. It was all about the £.

I'm shocked at how United fans can be delighted at this news. Rooney has taken us all for a ride because of his greed. Personally, I've done with the club. My shirt is getting burnt later (if I had a season ticket, I'd burn that as well) and Rooney will be the first player sold when I get FM 2011! :)

I assume all of this will be based on some sort of ceremony and a straw effigy of roontang.

Going to be interesting to see how this plays out now. Telling your team mates they arn't up to scratch isnt a good move. Evra doesnt sound happy about it. They could lose other players loyalty over this charade.

I doubt it will weaken uniteds position with other players deals as rooney is a special case, most other players would just have been allowed to leave.

Yes, this goes on in all walks of life, not just football. I've used similar tactics to get a pay rise.

However, I don't recall Shearer slagging off Newcastle in the process saying the quality of players wasn't good enough.

That's where Rooney hasn't done himself any favours. He shouldn't have made any public statement this week. All he's done is further hack off the fans and I suspect most of his colleagues as well.

Has it been mentioned how much he is getting on his new contract?

Well before this shambolic affair...he was on what £90k min a week...so id hazard a guess that hes now on at least £125k+ per week if not more...

Have to say well played Screwny the Rooney:p
