Rooney - 2 B Sold

People need to stop getting hung about official transfer requests. Very rarely a player will hand an official transfer request in these days because they're then not entitled to their cut of the transfer fee.

It's very clear Rooney told Utd he wanted to leave, whether as a negotiating tactic or because he actually wanted to. Handing in a transfer request is meaningless.

Think that Rooney, Fergie and Man Utd in general have played the press well and both got what they wanted. Rooney got a contract that he wanted, Utd keep their star player and if/when they want to sell him can command a much higher fee. Bravo fergie, Bravo, all he has to do now is win the fans back, which looking at how things have gone with simillar cases at Arsenal and Liverpool i dont think it will take to much.

I can't tell if you're serious. I don't think I want to know

very serious, its hardly gonna get the same coverage, gooners have not won anything in years, low budget team, and Cesc is Spanish, the media hardly covered it in comparison. UTD is a world brand.

Rooney is England's best striker (not of recent) but is a media target nevertheless

yeah totally agree, it is a good result, should have been handled internally by all, but good result in the end, i personally hope the Glazers have come out and said money will be there come the summer for big names..

Over here it might not have generated as much immediate press coverage, but it was big news in Spain for the entirety of summer (and the last, and the one before that, etc). I'd say overall it got just as much written about it, it's just that Rooney's "move" has come almost out of nowhere, and has been a bit mental for a very small period of time. Everyone and his dog knows Fabregas wants to eventually go back to Barca, and that Barca desperately want to sign him (though without actually paying a decent fee when they know tapping him up is just as easy).

In the UK, yeah Rooney is probably the bigger figure, but in terms of worldwide recognition/standing, I'd say they're pretty level.

Fabregas didn't undermine his team mates, manager and club. He didn't even say he wanted to leave until the transfer window was shut. He's also still giving 100% and didn't need to be bunged a new higher contract to do so. The two situations are very, very different.

I swear you say stupid things for no reason other than to try and annoy people. Do you really think what Cesc did in the close season is comparable to what Rooney has done, mid-season? :s Rooney didn't even want to go back to Everton (you assume, they wouldn't pay him enough)

Nobody has an issue with Rooney wanting to move clubs, that's fine, it's the timing and manner in which he's done it, and his motives behind wanting to do so, all of which stink. He's been hugely disrespectful to club, fans and manager, Fabregas was careful to not be, most Arsenal fans wished him well, very different to what Man Utd fans were saying of Rooney.

Exactly. I don't see how the two can be compared. Fabregas wants to leave for the same reasons Ronaldo went to Madrid, to join his childhood team, in his case, the club he grew up with and left to join Arsenal.

Totally agree - from what I have seen Fab has continued to give 110% for Arsenal this season so far (while sounding a little disappointed off the pitch - but afterall he is wishing to go back to the club he left which makes it a little more understanding), something which Rooney hasnt done for several weeks - not to mention the fact he just wanted out from Utd, not to return anywhere

Would suggest that Rooney is the bigger worldwide star currently - although Fab is capable of becoming multiple Baloon d'Or winner in time, something Rooney will be lucky to get once unless he really bucks his ideas up (in regards to bad behavior on the pitch more than anything)

not really the same, Rooney is one of the faces of English football, playing for a world wide brand and Cesc is a sub for the Spanish team playing in a slightly above average team.

Well that's me finally cutting my ties with football. i now officially detest the sport. I'm furious about this. I could hardly believe my eyes when I just read this on the BBC website.

This sets a precedent and will cause all sorts of ructions within the dressing room. Throw your toys out of the pram and pretty much blackmail the club and you'll get what you want.

Bye bye football. RIP.

There there baby. It's only a silly game where people kick a rubber ball around. No need with all this emotional investment.

1- no where in the official statement did Rooney say anything about his current team mates that was just media driven talk so may well not be true

2- all this has been exposed and resolved before Rooney has been given the chance to play a game. With that being said Fergie said Rooney told the club back in August he wanted to leave and has played this season regardless so not sure your second point has any value whatsoever

I only say things to put it into perspective that Rooney isn't the only player to act this way. Fabregas kept the whole world guessing all summer long whether he was willing to stay at Arsenal or not, I also mentioned Gerrard's previous, not my fault that you're a touchy little sod that throws a paddy anytime the whiter than white Arsenal are spoken about

Totally contradicting yourself there but hey ho

He's been hugely disrespectful to club, fans and manager, Fabregas was careful to not be, most Arsenal fans wished him well, very different to what Man Utd fans were saying of Rooney.

Very true but at no point did I make a direct comparison soley between Rooney and Fabregas you're just choosing to pick on that because you're a gooner.

I was leaning more to the fact that we wont be buying him anymore :)

You weren't in the first place. We'd had never of sold him to another Premiership team, christ we wouldn't even sell Heinze to Liverpool so City had no chance of getting Rooney

were liverpool willing to offer something astronomical for a player who could walk out for free 6 months later?

no.

are we debt ridden and in need of money?
