Rooney's Derby Goal

Tbf that just makes you a spaz :p

What part of him saying "I'll have a go" means he didn't mean to do what he did  :p And who cares if it hit his shin, that doesn't mean he didn't mean to put it there either, jeez :p

Definitely not the best goal I have seen. Average - Good.

I don't find over-head kicks very special. It's more luck than skill.

I think the scenario in which the goal came about (Old Trafford, Against City, Tie nicely balanced heading towards the final 10 minutes) is a lot more to do with why some people are in love with it.

The way some people are negating the goal, you could pretty much do the same with ANY goal quite frankly. Just a ball being kicked in a net..and ALL goals require an element of luck.

I played football every week for nearly 18 years, I did kung Fu and Kickboxing as well, I was very flexable, I can still do "jumping spinning kicks" as the instructor refered to them or jumping roundhouses as every one else does, axe kicks, reverse seeps, I could do front flips, back flips (once) and near enough do vertical splits, as in side kicks, but striaght up in the air.

Could I do a bicycle kick?
Could I arse, nearest I got was back to goal, ball comes in, I flick it up, fall over backwards and kick it at the same time.

Went about three yards behind me.
Looked a ****. :(

Yup the one I 'scored' was more of a rugby conversion, connected sweet with it though and it soared to at least 40 foot up.

My backs never been the same since.

Yep the closest I've come to a bicycle kick is those sort of sideways scissor kicks (which are still very easy to get wrong and look like a pratt!)

ive scored a few but im talking, up the park having a kick about, ive probably never done one as sweet as that though, dont think people understand how difficult it is to do that, you may think you can do it, but shut up lol, i bet you look like a fish thats just been shot in mid air.

only people who have played football for years and have actualy tried it know what im talking about, the others think they know what techniques are from sitting in there armchair, your actualy full of ****.

Now for something that wasn't very good and is easy to execute, why is there not one of those every week to discuss?

Because an inform striker would be in a decent position so he wouldn't have to resort to this sort of thing ;)

When your fat, slow and off the boil you will snatch at anything.

j/k

Derby day
City
1-1 coming upto full time
we didnt look like we were going to score
then BAM

it's not the goal itself that makes it special, it was the circumstances and the denial of City believing they are better

SO am i allowed to voice a realistic opinion without the condescending rolleyes, if the player himself backs up what i stated? Or are you going to ignore reality and say it was all positive?

You asked us to discuss what you said, regardless of whether your points were correct or not it was more negativity rather than saying anything positive

yeh it was a good goal with the obvious bit of luck helping it in but i reckon rooney peaked in 2007 and is never going to do much else of any great significance. if he hadn't have scored this goal, his performance would've gone down as another mediocre one.

at the end of the day, on the back of a defeat, 1-1 in a derby at home, 77th minute, it doesnt matter what his 'Performance' was like at all, the thing is he stood up in a big game reaching the final 10minutes of a derby, city had the upper hand at that time, and he stands up and does that.

You cant script that.

Newcastle goal for me. Gives me shivers when i see it. The view from behind him is best, you can see him mouthing off to the ref, look up, see the ball and just absolutely lash it. The movement of the ball in the air is amazing.

At this rate it will be the most over rated goal ever. It was a good goal, nothing more, nothing special at all.

I remember seeing it on MOTD last night and I just thought "Is that it?"

What else do you think he was trying to do, other than to direct the ball at goal?

How can you say over head kicks are a produce of luck rather than skill? So it's not skilful to manage to elevate yourself from a standing position, to one that's almost horizontally parallel to the ground, whilst keeping an eye on the ball so that you're meeting it with your foot at the exact time needed?

If anything, the deflection would have made it harder because firstly he would have had to readjust and secondly, the deflection would have taken power out of the cross meaning he had to create momentum for the ball too.

Yeah, it's certainly nothing special, we see goals like this week in, week out. No wait, we don't.

Fair enough, it's not the most amazing goal ever, but calling it nothing special is either you being a bitter Spurs fan or you must pull this off week in week out during Sunday league. Which one is it?
