RTX 3090ti RMA'd, B Grade 4070ti offered as a replacement

If you sold a working 3090ti on MM you'd probably get no more than £700 for it. That is what your card is worth now.
While that is true, there is a difference between choosing to sell your property and being forced to replace it due to a fault.

That said, I think both the offer of a ~£1K refund or the 4080 Super that was agreed in the end was a fair outcome. The OP just shouldn't have had to push to get an improvement over a B-Grade 4070 Ti.

It's good to hear there's been a suitable resolution, but I'm still confused about this all. As I understand the card was in warranty, so why wasn't it sent back to MSI for their help?

I appreciate the warranty is with the retailer, but if they're unable to repair or replace then shouldn't MSI be involved? What's the point of choosing specific brands of cards unless that brand is involved in these instances?

Because it was another opportunity to same some money off customer ;)

They have responded to me and are now offering a B Grade 4080 as a replacement instead.
I am a bit skeptical accepting a B Grade due to the reduced warranty period, and also due to it being only 16GB of VRAM still.
Are my concerns valid, or am I just being difficult at this point?
Never ever accept b grade for warranty replacement.

Take the cash tbh as others have suggested. Or escalate to trading standard.

It’s disgusting behaviour from a retailer trying to fall short on warranty claims.

It's a matter of opinion, there's more to a GPU than just raster performance and VRAM otherwise AMD cards would be dominating. For me it's close enough in raster that I would personally choose a 4070 Ti over a 3090 Ti. Also depends on which games you play, for example in MW3 the 4070 Ti is faster than a 3090 Ti in raster.
I wouldnt say its opinion, the vram amount of the 4070ti is simply worse.

Also frankly a POS compared to other expensive items IMHO where warranties are much better. My D600, years out of warranty, had its shutter assembly replaced by Nikon because of a potential issue they identified with certain units.

An RTX3090TI shouldn't be crapping itself when it is so new, for the companies to pull a fast one!
Camera manufacturers seems to really excel at CS.
I had this Canon Powershot A320 (AFAIR). Didn't use it much but it suddenly stopped working. Looked it up and there was a defect in the (Sony) CCD, and Canon were repairing them at their expense even if long out of warranty. Still didn't use it much when I got it back, but that was excellent CS!
This is the main reason I don't buy from OcUK. I don't think anyone else does this.
I'm sure I have heard this before on that UK deals site. In fact, I think that high street retailer of used stuff does this.

And like @Purgatory's advice, I would have taken the refund bought a 3090 Ti from them - they may try to wiggle out of their warranty but it seems major retailers do too anyway!
This is why I bought an FE card, because I know if it failed under warranty, then Jensen would make sure I wouldn't be out of pocket.
Did you just say that Jensen might not be a total scrounge after all?! At least not all the time anyhow!

I would have taken the money and at a minimum bought a 2nd had 3090 Ti. There is zero point in taking a 16gb card if you need 24gb for work or whatever.
They didn't actually need 24GB VRAM for work, people on reddit told him to say that to try and get a free upgrade to a 4090.

Hi!
So recently my RTX3090ti died on me, I sent it back for RMA. Today I received a confirmation email that they have detected a fault with the GPU.
The issue is that due to low stock on RTX 3090ti's, Overlockers support has advised that they are unable to provide me a 1:1 replacement, and have instead offered me a B Grade RTX 4070ti.

My initial purchase of the 3090ti was decided due to the fact I heavily rely on the 24GB of VRAM for my work. The 4070ti has half the VRAM of the 3090ti, and is also half the price I paid for the RTX 3090ti. The lack of VRAM would make this card almost unusable for me.
As the VRAM is essential for me, is there any chance of a 3090ti being restocked, or an identical VRAM card being supplied as the replacement?

Yeah, that is just not acceptable at all. The 4070ti is an inferior card. I would question whether it is possible to return it to the manufacturer, since they will almost certainly have original replacements.

I'm at a loss as to what to do really. I seem to be losing out due to them not having stock of any 3090ti's. If I were to take the refund and then get another 24GB NVIDIA card I would be left 500 out of pocket.

But would have a massively faster card, brand new with a fresh warranty, which you seem to be conveniently ignoring.

Their first offer was an insult, the 4080 was better but not great however them offering £1100 for a 18 month old card you bought for just over £1400, when you can get 3090 ti on ebay for less well less than £1000 is a very fair offer.

You've had 18 months usage for £300 and what they are offering you now is VERY fair. A warranty doesnt entitle you to a full refund after 18 months of usage. If im being critical of all this it kinda now sounds like you're fishing for a free upgrade to a 4090 which is a bit greedy.

Accept the money, add some more to it and buy a 4090 /thread

This.

You're not entitled to a full refund. Just like car insurance only pays out what would be required to replace the car with one of similar spec, age and condition, so they've offered you enough of a refund to replace your card with a similar used 3090Ti.

Either go that route or pay the £500 for the 4090 upgrade.

I agree with all that. I was just trying to show it was also an opportunity to do well out of the situation
