RTX 4070 12GB, is it Worth it?

Starting with IMO the 4080 is a £800 card at most.
Yeah £800 for a 4080 seems reasonable. Unfortunately I don't think that will happen now, because the top Navi31 cards have already been released.

I think we will see RTX 4070 TI and the RX 7900 XT both at around £700 though this year.

It looks like the RTX 4070 is a good but not great overclocker, based on this:

The hotspot temp is a bit higher than I would like, but I guess we will see how it holds up in reviews. The power usage seems very low considering that it's overclocked.

It looks like it will be around a 32 TFlop card when overclocked, so should at least be competitive with a stock RTX 3080.

It shouldn't need to be overclocked to get to acceptable performance! :(

Makes me wonder whether it is BIOS locked in some way,so it can't catch up to the RTX4070TI?

I guess that at least means you can get one for the proper RRP...

Will still probably end up being £579 or something though disappointingly.

Apparently AIB's are a bit mad with Nvidia for jibating them.

They told AIB's they were going to be $750, so they designed them to that standard of price, a week ago Nvidia turned round and said actually they will be $599 and for the first week or two you can only launch cards at that price.

EVGA sitting in the corner "I ###### told you they would pull a stunt like this"

Apparently this is very typical for "The Man In The Kitchen" or "The Man Who Lives In His Leather Jacket". He has been known to change the price mid sentence.

I heard (and I am too stupid to know better) that the reason is that it's (once again) that the memory is the problem with the 4070. The GPU itself is great but has limited overclocking becuase the memory bus is holding it back. I have no idea if that is true, but it wouldn't surprise me. NVIDIA seem to see memory as the way to make their products obsolete in two years.

Are you MLID with your made up sources trying to make out that the 750 wasn't made up?

Who would have thought... but us stupid people fail to grasp the hardware specs of things like bandwidth, buses and capacity. Maybe the marketing guru's are right?

A little pertinent info just popped up;

Yep as expected, also goes to show how silly the $750 rumour was.

Intresting that those slides only compare the 4070 with the 3080 when DLSS 3 Frame Generation is on. Not with it off....
