RTX 4070 12GB, is it Worth it?

The best word to describe the 4070 is "Meh".

It's a solid but underwhelming card that is as per standard Nvidia pricing just a bit to much for what is offered.

Yet it is the cheapest next gen card there is so for the moment for the mid range gamer it's the only option.

If it was £100 cheaper, it would a fairly exciting release.

At £600 it's just kind of meh, and only has power efficiency, upgraded RTX/dlss performance as a main selling point.

That doesn't break it down into pcs and console, I can't see anything that does but this is Ubisoft showing what their money is from, still not specifying a game though:

Basically PC is half or less of their Console "net bookings" which I'm not entirely sure the meaning of.

True, but:

1) did better than everything else, which means is an upwards trend
2) Did it have problems with vRAM?

OCUK have listings for the 4070 up, but no pricing.
Large selection to choose from.

Thought this Zotac card had the best aesthetics.

The ASUS Dual looks pretty good to me. It’s a more compact card, but based on this review today that standout feature (in my opinion at least) is the quiet BIOS at only 25dba and still at a very reasonable temperature. 25dba makes it one of the most silent cards in the world that isn’t completely passive. Wish more companies would place a better emphasis on their quiet bios fan curves.

Anyone who buys that Gigabyte Master at £750 needs to have a word with themselves.

Who buys those cards? I've never understood how there is a market for high tier AIB versions that are almost as much as the next tier of card.

Not looking great on pricing for any of the models you'd actually want.....
also a bit miffed that the 'white tax' is still in full effect: Inno3d cheapest model £589, same model in white: £649 :(

As @humbug said, AMD really have an open goal here for the 7800XT, but I won't be surprised if they manage to spoon it.

If AMD can squeeze out 16GB/256bit at £600-650 with comfortably over 3080 performance, they'll almost certainly have my money, but I'm not holding my breath (just my wallet!)

You never know and rumours have it that AMD are taking there time on the 7800XT and below as they want to fix the issues seen in the 7900's.

It's pulling 180 watts at 3080 performance, nice. If I can get one under £600, I will. 12gb will suffice until next gen due next year.

It's literally an RTX3060 replacement at a near RTX3080 price and despite all your critical views on this generation you already have caved in! :o
No wonder Nvidia can get away with all of these games, when people complain about this generation and due to FOMO just buy it. So I hope you never complain again, because this is the same game Nvidia did with Turing. Now both Nvidia and AMD are doing the same thing, almost like some unofficial price fixing.

It's no different than with Apple when people just threw money at them, and they charged insane amounts of money for a few GB more of system RAM or a slightly larger SSD. Then the same people now complain the upgrades cost too much.

The "RTX4070" has a similar die size, same memory controller layout to an RTX3060,and 36% of the shaders of the RTX4090 and 58% of the performance of the RTX4090 at qHD:

The RTX3060 had 35% of the shaders of the RTX3090 and 52% of the performance at qHD:

The RTX3060TI had 46% of the shaders of the RTX3090 and 67% of the performance at qHD. The RTX4070TI has about 70% of the performance of the RTX4090 at qHD,so there you go.....a doubling of pricing in a generation.
