RTX 4070 12GB, is it Worth it?

So, there are more than a couple of RTX 4070 variants that use the new 16 pin high power connector, according to specs on techpowerup's database.

Seems like they could've just required the connector on all models for simplicities' sake.

Is 240w the max board power of any RTX4070 model released so far?

Having the options of an 8pin or 12pin connector, means there is the option to charge extra for the 4 more pins.

The Last of Us Part I:

He's getting ~52 FPS, with 1% lows a bit below that at 1440p.

'The performance is OK'.

'I was expecting 60'.

Performance is generally similar to an RTX 3080 in this title, with a lower average framerate.

GPU usage remains at ~99% even below 60 frames.
What a disaster.

I don't disagree or doubt any of that.

But question was why don't you consider amds alternatives? :p Is there something you need that only nvidia provides?
New gen toys for £589???
Guys, Seriously...

Hi there

For those unsure, the 16-pin (12V) connector cards on OcUK are:

Gainward Phoenix
Gainward Phoenix GS
Gigabyte Gaming OC
Gigabyte Aero OC
Gigabyte Aorus Master
Inno3D iChill X3
MSI Gaming X Trio
Palit GamingPro
Palit GamingPro OC
Zotac AMP Airo

I do expect an Asus Strix to make an appearance at somepoint at a no doubt bonkers price.
I have also since gone through all the OC models and made sure we have no cards exceeding £700 !

Not sure on power limits but the 16-pin cards seem to vary between 200-260W, this should aid in boost clocks and overclocking, but as always the silicon lottery is the biggest factor!

I would personally just buy the cheapest card available, if your contemplating spending near £700 then buy a 4070Ti or a 7900 XT for the little extra it cost for a solid 20% performance boost.

I am still LOLing at the guy earlier above that I replied too, saying that he did not want to buy "old amd cards" refusing to buy the cheaper 6800xt and similar priced 6950xt both faster and with more Vram. And he went on to say "I purchased the 4070 and look forward to high frame rates for years to come" LOL, goodluck with that....its already borderline obsolete for AAA 1440p gaming....

Chaps, MSI's RTX 4070 Gaming X Trio has a higher maximum power limit (240w) than other versions of the card:

The performance does seem to be a little better in games when overclocked. It uses a 16-pin 12VHPWR power connector - maybe the only 4070 non reference model that does?

It's priced >£600 in the UK though.

Wow, its really gonna tear through games with that extra 20watts.... :p

It's all about the marketing. Many of the same people buy consoles and those have been powered by AMD SOCs for years. Most likely if someone gave them a PC with unmarked components inside they wouldn't really know the difference.

I know this from experience - over a decade ago most of my mates would just get Nvidia and not AMD. But once they tried AMD cards they realised they were fine in most cases. So in the end alternate between the brands according to what the best deal is at the time.
