Russell Brand.

I'd like him to practice what he preaches and not jump on every populist bandwagon. I might then take him seriously.

That is why I like Bill Gates. He's fabulously wealthy yet donates vast sums to real causes and does it without the media whore aspect.

Ricky Tomlinson - made a lot of money but nigh on gave his first million away to the needy. Another bloke I have time for.

Brand though ? All talk. No action.

I agree and disagree.
Some things can't be fixed with money.

Sometimes you need someone with a large following and a big mouth to highlight the issues, rather than like you said give your wealth to help solve the problem.

Can't believe after this many replies I'm the first to post this but....

Am I missing something or does he actually do anything to champion the poor and underprivileged ?

PARK LIFE!

I watched him recently getting interviewed in Downing Street where he was on about high rents and unscrupulous landlords only to be challenged and he admitted he rents despite his wealth.

PARK LIFE!

He accused Nigel Farage of being a 'Pound shop Enoch Powell' on QT yet when challenged by an audience member about entering politics, he declined saying he'd be 'frightened to become one if them.'

PARK LIFE!

All I seem to hear is do as I say not as I do champagne socialism from him. Any fans out there ?

PARK LIFE!

I'm not a huge fan, but anyone who is trying to get the spotlight back on the real reason this country has gone down the pan (bankers causing a financial crisis, the popular political parties all being in the pocket of the City) and away from the ridiculous immigration diversion is alright by me.

It's easy to be a critic and support populist campaigns, ideas... He's got no real substance, solutions etc... and yes he is quite hypocritical at times - attacking bankers pay when he earns more than most bankers, complaining about the rent New Era residents will pay when he also lives in the area and has contributed to the rise in prices....

Last time I checked Russell Brand hadn't been bailed out by the tax-payer nearly bringing the entire economy down in the process.

I like him. I can't really think of a more apt phrase than 'haters gunna hate'. He puts across a good message on most of the vids I've seen him in.

How do you know he doesn't financially support worthy causes?

i watch some trews clips now and then

i like the ones where he shows how rubbish news like the daily mail or fox in the US is
i dont really agree with his stance on war or some other things
i agree with his views that the economy is the real problem and not immigration or the EU
he does seem to care about what he is talking about

funny people calling someone a "champagne socialist" when they don't drink
don't see how being rich makes you a hypocrite either

i think while he is intelligent, his over verbosity does get in the way a bit or turn people off

its interesting how often people lay into how he looks or his personality rather than actually what he is actually saying most of the time

I think what he is getting at with his "dont vote" thing is that the party he would traditionally vote for (labour) is a steaming pile of mess right now and it leaves no one else to vote for - he was almost begging the labour MP on QT to "give us something to vote for"

Because his Management Team and Marketing bods would be promoting this fact at any given opportunity if he was?

Maybe his "management team" and "marketing bods" don't know nor care what the hell he does with his money. He's hardly be the first rich or famous person to keep that kind of thing under the radar.

Don't you see how assuming that he doesn't secretly donate to charity because you've never heard about it is a MASSIVE failure in logical reasoning?

I only found out he had a channel an hour or so ago, been watching a few videos of his. The ' Is Fox News More Dangerous Than Isis? Russell Brand The Trews (E86) ' was good :D

being rich doesn't make someone a hypocrite

protesting expensive rents while paying an expensive rent and contributing to the rise in rents in the same hipster area is a bit dubious

earning more money than most bankers while also protesting against the govt's fight against bonus caps is a bit dubious too

so he can only protest about expensive rents if he lives somewhere cheap?
just because he can afford it doesn't mean he is a hypocrite for pointing out that it must be nearly impossible for everyone else?

hardly the same - if he screws up he just sells less books
if a banker screws up the bank folds or gets bailed out for billions
