He donated to the Hillsborough lot a couple years ago and if you look on
http://www.russellbrand.com/store/ you will see that the net profit from sales go to various charities too.
Might not be a vast amount but that, plus time he has spent campaigning adds up.
IF as in the post which is basically all I see from him, he profits from campaigning, then it's not campaigning, it's work for him. That is the problem, he jumps on every bandwagon, tries to sound eloquent but what he says is usually twaddle, he does lots of stunts and then tells you about his book, or the film he's making currently.
Al Sharpton does nothing but campaign, he wades into every freaking race issue in the US, he perpetuates racism and often makes situations worse, riling up people. His intention has never, ever been about making things better, he's a profit seeking turd of a human being.
I'm not saying Brand is as bad as Sharpton but there are many financial reasons that people get involved in causes. It's widespread cheap ass publicity for people who sell books and make movies.
He has no direction, no goal, he just goes around getting loud, getting in peoples faces and achieving nothing at all, it's his shtick, nothing more or less. He has cultivated a kind of hippy personality which means activism kind of suits his general personality and ultimately helps him sell books and make more money.
If he cared more about specific causes he one, wouldn't jump infront of every currently trending cause with the goal of massive exposure for himself by getting into arguments that take attention away. Genuine people who care about the causes more than the publicity usually chose a few key things and work hard for years without any care about the attention they get. I don't know for certain but he certainly fits the profile of a guy who cares about his profile more than any cause he works for, is loud with nothing genuinely useful to say and jumps around from one thing to the next following whatever the cause of the week is.
