Russian airliner missing over Egypt

Given the plane of was 30k feet, if the Islamic State were filming it then I imagine there would have to be some serious zooming going on which would presumably affect picture quality.

But CSI has shown everyone that if we really want to we could read the part numbers on the aircraft mid-flight and see the expressions on the faces of the people aboard. ;)

Regardless, the only way an IS numpty would have hit that aircraft with anything is if it was already crippled by a problem and on it's way down. A lucky shot at an already unlucky aircraft by a jihadi who just happened to be carrying a MANPAD and be in the right place at the right time.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already but a potentially interesting quote:

A US defence official told NBC that an American satellite picked up heat flashes around the time of the plane crash in the Sinai. They added that there was no missile trail - so puts doubt on the theory of the plane being downed by a surface-to-air missile.

*cough* the flap fell off *cough* :o

hehe we've got a fair few RAF guys at our place :p

That was years ago now mind and I'm sure it was down to metal fatigue it happened, cant remember all the ins and outs of it all though.

It was a Tristar too, renowned for being a static display aircraft and not getting you home.

ugh tristar :p
if you even manage to take off you can look forward to squeaky interior panels and creaky overhead bins for 12 hours

Is there any actual forensic evidence, or is it the usual combination of speculation and every terrorist organisation in the nearby vicinity claiming responsibility?

If they have suspended all flights to Sharm, I would expect they have something to go by.

Airports lose millions if flights in/out cannot occur, if this did happen by bomb, they need to seriously sort out the security in that airport, and I would think a major audit would go ahead on the security in other airports

That is one major major cockup if something got through, people should be all over this by now.

They wouldn't suspend all flights without strong internal evidence. Thousands of British tourists will be stranded there and it will be costing millions. The government obviously know more than we do at this point, but I'm sure more details will come out in the coming days.

I'd bet my life savings on this now being an explosive device that was detonated. :( r.i.p to those on board.

I'm pretty sure they'll know there was an explosion on board now, it's just a question on whether it was caused by a bomb, or as dannyjo22 mentioned an explosion in a centre fuel tank like TWA 800.

If airlines had voluntarily suspended their flights I'd tend to agree, but for the UK and only the UK government to suspend flights doesn't mean much to me as they always put politics ahead of airline profits or concern for UK citizens.
