Russian airliner missing over Egypt

I'm guessing it's nonsense - if the Islamic State had the capability to shoot down an passenger airplane at cruising altitude they would have used it by now. They're just taking advantage of the tragedy imo.
I doubt they could shoot it down, but manage some form of sabotage or bomb? Perhaps.

Fact is, so far, nobody knows?

ISIS, or rather someone that might or might not really be ISIS, claims they did it, and they certainly could claim motive, but then, they could claim responsibility out of sheer opportunism. If they cause fear and economic loss, without lifting a finger, it's a win. If they really did it, given Russia's recent actions in Syria, it's a win. Either way, they could be claiming it. Or it could be a hoax (the claim, not the crash).

Until actual facts start emerging from the investigation, all we seem to know is there were flight difficulties, it came down, and the loss of innocent life is tragic.

There isn't much constructive to be said yet, so it comes down to commiserating with those that lost friends or loved ones, and wishing RIP for the lost.

I can't work out a situation where placing a bomb on a plane that you know is more than likely going to be full of Russians is a good idea, unless you're looking to really escalate things.

But then I also can't work out why a 'random' shooting down of a passenger airliner would make sense either.

In summary:

Can all the Islamophobic idiots go post somewhere else or make your thread.

Incidently, a MANPAD can not get above 10,000ft

Incorrect.

As a quick example:
Stinger missile can hit targets flying as high as 3,500 m, (11482.9ft), and has a range of around 8 km, (5 miles)

And there are lots more out there that can hit targets that high......

But its a bit irrelevant if it was cruising at 30k+ ft

One thing is mentioned of tail burning so think the tail fin may cause lose during flight and then maybe break off or damage the tail that make plane lost control and dive too fast.. It still too early to find out so it take time to build up then see what happen to the plane.. Airbus is the most safest plane.. 224 people lost their life that a lots..

Dive too fast would have resulted in a much heavier impact. I wouldn't think that you would hear screams or hear reports of some still strapped in seats.

Although it will be speculation until the data recorder is analysed.

I can't see how an Airbus A321 would drop out of the sky, these planes are extremely safe. I'm calling foul play to be honest.

Any aircraft which is built, maintained, and operated by fallible human beings, can fall out of the sky at anytime, irrespective of who the manufacturer is.

If the claims about bodies being found still strapped into seats are true, then wouldn't that indicate that something happened mid-flight to make the pilots put on the seatbelt signs?

Most people wear seatbelts throughout a flight even when the signs are off - its good practice and protects you in the event of unexpected turbulence. Plus the aircraft had only just reached the top of its climb so many of those who would unbelt might not have done so yet.

It is only a safe plane if it is well maintained.

I seen a report of an estimated decent rate of 6000 feet / min, not sure how accurate or where they got this from. Surely if you lose a plane from radar you can't tell this info. Unless the were seeing it decend before it dissapeared

... and let's be honest, Russian airlines have historically had a pretty poor safety record.

You've got a hard on for Russia, haven't you? Very bizarre.

Has anybody seen the video released by "Islamic militants" downing the passenger jet? It appears to be a bomb on the airplane rather than a missile, the jet carries on flying with a plume of black smoke billowing from the back. Either way, a terrible event.
