Russian airliner missing over Egypt

This thread is like ****ing in the wind. You just never know what direction it's going to take.

How about we all wait for the full report and then we will know what happened instead of trying to carry out a full crash investigation from a few news articles.

What we know so far:

It crashed
Everyone is dead.

But the world's foremost experts are in GD, experts who can conclude anything from nothing.

No, I don't need others to form my opinions, however I am interested.
Given that Sir Fox felt it necessary to come in here and post a pointless one liner I thought perhaps he might like to expand on his thoughts...

I don't think he has any thoughts on the matter, because like the rest of the world no one knows what happened yet.

This thread includes far more than just 1 line of pointless posting...

Even if stalled the decent speed would create enough lift to stop it reaching 6000fpm.

If it was a bomb/missile then the explosion could have caused the ascent before the fall, If it had ripped through the aileron controls before rapid decent.

That thing fell apart in the sky full of fuel for some reason.

Also no mayday? so its happened fast very fast. :(

If there was an explosion big enough to do major control or structural damage when the plane was at 30,000 feet then there would be lots of debris in a very wide range (as in, a debris field with a diameter of tens of miles). So in my very uneducated opinion I doubt an explosion, or anything else that would cause the plane to break up mid flight, brought the plane down from that height because from the pictures I've seen the debris is mostly in one small area.

However, teaboy5 is right. Speculation won't achieve much so I'll leave my thoughts on the causes at that, and say RIP to all the passengers and crew on board.

224 lost, 217 passengers of them 25 children and 7 crew. I hope the end for them was quick, RIP.

While to start with there was talk of an SOS, now they (Mr Kamal) said "Up until the crash happen, we were never informed of any faults in the plane nor did we receive any SOS calls."

No it hasn't - I don't think we should let these tragic events cloud our views and allow us to lose sense of perspective. It is entirely because these events are so exceptionally rare that they seem so impactful when they occur. There are essentially a handful of serious incidents a year now - there was a time when there were dozens despite significantly lower traffic numbers. Believe it or not this is only the second large jet disaster this year.

Aviation is safer than it has ever been.

With over 1,300 deaths, 2014 was one of the worst years for fatalities in quite a while, I think it's important not to lose sight of that.

Calm yourself.

Maybe do with the tail and bulkhead which was repaired by MEA airline... Like Japan 123 accident in 1985.. Seem that it broke up in midair than crash on land... Pick all piece and then put it on like jigsaw to find out the cause of accident

Due to a rapid descent or broke up then dropped?
Seems to point to a structural catastrophic failure that's caused it. Possibly either a explosive decompression event like braveheart mentioned or a bomb.

Search area has been expanded by 9miles as they've found bodies elsewhere away from the main site now.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bomb

I doubt it would have been difficult to do, Sharm airport is a horrid place , its organised chaos and I can't see security being upto much

In before all the Russian/US/Israeli/NATO red-flag/revenge kind of issues start to surface.

If that plane was brought down by malicious intent Putin is going get medieval on the usual suspects.

It's absolutely no consolation to those lost or who have lost anyone but I hope this is an accident. There is enough strife going on already in the middle east without more provocations and complications.
