Ryzen 3900X thread

Without a cooler would be much easier to say, but I have a feeling if you did wrong you would already know :D

Edit:

Just use other RAM slots A2/B2 not A1/B1 ;)

I'm being a bit cautious for sure. :D

With regard to the ram, is that because of the heat from being too near the CPU?

A2/B2 is primary slots for using 2 ram sticks, basically you will have less problems running them on A2/B2 and I believe its also mentioned in motherboard manual to use those slots first :D

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. Cheers, Tom. :)

I've not installed an M.2 drive before. I assume that I am supposed to just screw down the drive but the manual suggests that I remove the silver standoff. It seems a bit of a tight fit. Bit confused.

You should have a screw that holds the M.2 drive in place, it will align with the notch on the end and the silver part on the board, don’t over tighten it.

I understand that but the manual seems to suggest that I remove the standoff already in place. At least that's how it read to me anyway. Maybe I'm over thinking it; I'll upload another pic later. Cheers for the reply.

It might be just showing you can readjust the stand-off so it matches the size of the m.2 drive (either 42, 60 or 80mm), you can see the other couple of holes under the drive.

Yes, maybe. When I press down on the drive it does make a sort of reassuring click, so perhaps I should just leave it. Anyway, I'll upload another pic when I get home.

Are these the motherboard standoffs? I assume cases come with them pre-fixed or bolted on nowadays?

I don't seem to have many of these additional (silver) ones so that's why I'm assuming that I just screw the board on to the black raised 'standoffs'?

They are m.2 standoff for the smaller ssd drives that plugin on the motherboards.

motherboards do not come with fitting screws for cases or standoffs every case manufacturers use different sizes Corsair use different size standoffs and different screws to phanteks for a example. Im pritty sure the last motherboard I brought with screws for fitting it into a case was athlon x2 many years ago

Cheers.

Here is a pic showing the finished mobo attachment. The black screw in the middle of the picture is the standoff - but I expect you lot know that. :o :D

There were eight in all.

Now to start connecting some/all of this lot. I may well wait until tomorrow evening to do most of this as I have to turn my attention to other things soon. I appreciate the help, thanks. :)

Found a game the pushed the 3900X core utilization :D
As expected X4 2.6Beta is well designed for the new AMD CPUs.

Was playing the last two days saw the game spreading across 10 cores with utilization 60-90%. Only 1 thread was using on CCD1 the rest were on core "threads".
It also pushed the 5700XT AE utilization to a constant 99%. Huzzah :D

That justifies now a 3950X at Christmas time, though contemplating a new TR4 if their speeds are similar at 4.5Ghz :D

Got the new ABBA or whatever it is BIOS that came out the other day, ran Cinebench and was worse than before, 4.1 max as opposed to 4.2 so I just had a sulk and gave up hope.

Played Gears 5 and it was sat at 4.5 and hitting 4.6 regularly. So....maybe Cinebench has been the issue the whole time :p

If you upgraded the BIOS did you re-install the chipset drivers?
