Ryzen 3900X thread

Yes perfectly normal. Any little thing causes it to boost in frequency and cause very brief temperature spikes. It doesn't mean it's running hot or using lots of power though.

You know. I had the same thing. Googled and found the same response. However mine no longer does this. Just sits at 24-27c.

I honestly haven't checked the temps on mine for about 6 months now. It's under a custom loop and I know it maxes out around 65c so it can do what it likes :p

I wonder if a recent update over the last 6 weeks has stopped it doing it as much.

I have just switched coolers, but noticed it had stopped that behaviour before then.
 
I've ordered a Arctic II 360 AIO for my 3900X to try and squeeze a little bit better boost clocks vs the Wraith Prism.

I will miss the nice RGBs on it though i must say.

Just need to decide whether to use the MX4 paste that comes with it or whether i use Liquid Metal on it...

I'm really interested to know how it compares to your previous cooler and the temps etc...?

I've heard the AMD installation can be tricky and you need an extra set of hands if you install it with the motherboard in the case so may rope the Mrs in to help. :D

Yeah I saw the video. Looks interesting, definitely a mobo flat approach required.

The 150i just screws down thankfully. Although was £60 more!

Looks like it is out for delivery today so will hopefully get a chance to install it later after work.

I might try and install it without taking the motherboard out, see how it goes.
 
So what cooler are you using at the moment?
The stock cooler, Wraith Prism.

It looks lovely but it does reach 90c at times under heavy load in Football Manager when the game is calculating the results of all the football matches. This stresses each of the 24 threads to 100%.

This is mental. I wonder if my monitoring sw is off. Or FM is a beast!

Prime and cinebench continuous loops I'd be low 70c on the wraith prism and a 3900x.

Must be volts I guess.

Interesting, would love to know what the voltage and frequency was when you run Prime95?

I am monitoring using HWINFO64 and am checking the CPU Die (average) temperature which is what is shown in Ryzen Master Tool.

When FM is loading all the cores the core frequncy is around 4Ghz ish at 80-90C at 1.237v ish.

1.287/1.296v all core load at 4100. I'm higher than that freq now (more like 4200) with the h150i in prime. Temp wise in prime its between 50c on the lighter tests and 65 on the intense tests now.

I feel like I have the coolest running chip ever!

I also use hwinfo.

I'll try Prime95 but i suspect the temps will get high even quicker.

Did you run small fft or something else?

That said i just remembered that i have the fan speed running at a constant low speed for silence via a fan controller. So the Prism never revs up to full speed, probably doesn't help but i prefer the silence at all times.

Fan might be it. There is a switch on it too I didn't know about until recently.

I only do blend tbh in prime, so I guess that explains why some tests it heats up to mid 60s then drops down.

New system based on 3900x+ Asus X570-E motherboard + 16gb 3600 Patriot ram+ msi 2080 gpu + adata 512gb ssd- GPU and CPU cooled via custom loop (1 x 280+ 1 x 120 rads (fans running pwm) + xspc photon d5 pump running at setting 2

I have not overclocked anything apart from the ram running at docp.

The voltage that the board runs the cpu at seems high (1.4 + volts) but this may , I understand, be normal.

Did a Cinebench R20 run - scores = 7017 all core and max temp 65c plus 511 single core and max temp 59c

Score sound about right ? Temperature anything to worry about - Voltage ; any recomendations?

Sounds about right. Look for an option called Performance enhancer in the BIOS and set that to Level 3.

Also use the 1usmus v1.1 power profile, that will get you some slightly higher core clocks and a little extra performance over your score above.

1) Spikes to 1.4+ are normal, it should drop also to ~1.00v - Use CPU-Z to check this.
My voltage this session is 1.475 high / 0.969v low

2) About average. Im around 69 degrees peak/load on a 360mm AIO ( fans 40%)

3 ) Nothing to worry about

Been playing Far Cry New dawn - max temp 73c -No problem I trust ?

I am just a little concerned that the board does seem to overdo it ref voltage but I do not know how to settle things down :confused: or if it is possible!!

Am coming from a 5820k system which was much easier to control (then again it only had 6 cores!) and I appreciate that Ryzen is a little different.

Will try with Performance enhancer - level 3 and the power profile you refer to - am not too bothered about all core performance as principally the system is used for gaming and I am not looking for the fastest since ..... but anything which would reduce volts/temps would be appreciated.
