There are two motherboard connections for CPU power, an 8 pin and a 4 pin. My PSU only has an 8 pin connector. Is it worth getting a new PSU with the extra 4 pin too?
No, it’s not required.

Not required but from previous boards I've had with this then if you're overclocking or have a few peripherals drawing power from the motherboard then it was recommneded to use it.No, it’s not required.
Is your PSU non modular? You should really be plugging into all the power connectors on the motherboard.

OK I see. What motherboard is it? I've had several boards over the years with the extra socket and even some with a 4pin molex in addittion to 2 x 8pin EPS ones.It is semi modular, but doesn't have the extra 4pin CPU power cable output. Motherboard manual says you can use just the 8pin or the 8pin + 4pin. However my question is more what will it improve if I get a new PSU with the extra 4pin cable?
OK that could well be the case it's more intended for extreme overclockers. You'll not use anywhere the limits of the single 8-pin unless you're extreme overclocking. The extra 4-pin is otherwise redundant.
The stock cooler should handle stock clocks really... So that's strange with the multicore throttling.I updated the AMD chipset drivers and that helped with allocating of cores. In Cinebench R15 using single thread it now switches between the fastest and second fastest cores on CCD0 CCX1. Had to edit the settings in the BIOS to increase EDC and TDC, now with PBO / auto oc it will hit a constant 4.4GHz in single threaded workload. Multithreaded it will now almost immediately hit max temp 95C and throttle back from 4.1GHz to 3.8GHz. I'm guessing the stock cooler is not up to this?

That sounds perfectly normal to me when I tested the stock heatsink though I suggest using Realbench to put load on your CPU rather than Prime95.It idles high 40s, and as soon as there is a full load such as P95 the temp instantly rises to 80+. As soon as P95 is stopped, goes back to ~50 then high 40s again. Is that normal? I'd have thought the temp would ramp up and down.

Get 8packs 3200cl14 ryzen kit ot dedicated ryzen2 Gskill Nero kit.I’m about to upgrade to 3900X and ROG Hero viii X570 motherboard. Unsure on what ddr4 to get to go with it. Looking forward to the build though not built an amd system since Thunderbird
I’ve been looking at the 3600mhz cl16 or 3866mhz cl18 kit both showing £169.99. Was looking more towards the 3866mhz kit and down clock to 3600mhz and then tighten timing. I will be honest the near £9 delivery charge is putting me off.Get 8packs 3200cl14 ryzen kit

Fair. I stared looking at the 3866kit because they are in stock at the moment. Will wait for the 3600mhz kit I think is due tomorrow and go from there. The 3600 CL16 is likely the better option in the first place.

I'd go for the 32000MHz CL14 kit, cheaper, in stock and will still do 3600 CL16 maybe even CL14 or 3800CL16 (if FCLK allows).
