i agree! Well they are built like tanks for a start which isn't obvious straightaway and have way beefed up power lanes etc but yes a lot of money!Ive been building computers for 30 years. How on earth can a motherboard cost £650? I can't even see any new or special features other than the socket and PCIE5

Atleast the CPU will be nice an cool xD, but yeah I do, it's pretty mental the requirements but ah well crossing fingers and well at least it's definitely future proof for a good long while :|I may not be impressed with the overall package that the 7000 series brings to the party but I do not think that anyone can deny it is the out and out Emperor for certain tasks and nothing else comes close to it in the areas it excels in.
If your workload can utilize all the cores or is in the areas where Ryzen is strong then it is a must have.
Also, if in 5 years time you can slot in a 32+ core 9950X into that mobo and more than double your performance you boss will most likely give you a big kiss.
Or he would be puckering up until he saw the price of the AIO you have chosen lol. Whatever you do dont let them see it in the flesh or you will have explaining to do.
Didn't believe you till I googled it. Holy. MOLY.There is an Asus Glacial for £1500 - £1600.
It's pretty crappy tbh. But the thing is, it's going to just keep getting worse every few years. There's people posting their annoyance, yet still millions buying :/. It needs a whole redo over the PC market. The motherboard makers in particular seem to be gouging.
Thanks for the tip, been looking for a 2TB drive.Samsung have got a really good cashback promotion going on 870 Evo 1, 2, 4 TB and 980 Pro 1TB and 2TB - non heatsink versions at the moment, unfortunately OcUK isn't on the participating retailers list, otherwise I would have posted Samsungs official link. Bagged myself a Samsung 980 Pro 2TB on the cheap, already had a 500GB.
If you want the latest and greatest though, Samsung releasing the 990 Pro in October, although doubt it will make any difference compared to the 980s for everyday use, hence Samsung trying to get rid of their old stock with cashback promotion.

Does HEDT even exist anymore? Nowadays all the production guys use Ryzen or some other mainstream type. I would say Threadripper is more like the Xeons than the Haswell-E I have.@SquirrelMadness
Thats the problem when you are coming from HEDT to mainstream, the PCIE lanes.
everything is so much faster and larger of course so you have consolidate the drives Couple 2TB nvme etc larger SSD and HDD
If they win competitions then they can make that money back easy. Some idiots will pay 4k for a 4090 and AM5 system to play Fortnite & COD at 1080p 1000 FPS
Aye, same with content creation, the upgrades pay for themselves. If they win competitions then they can make that money back easy.
No different to a plumber buying tools for his trade.
Gotta keep those margins high.Guys
I need to re-order 7950X and my cost is considerably higher as such if your thinking of buying one get it done as the price will go up later / tomorrow as re-buy is much higher due to weak pound.
Pound has already gone down by the time prices were put up, so can't imagine that should be the case.Just picked up a 7900X and AsRock Steel Legend, got some DDR5-6400 CL32 to go with it.
Happy to pay the early adopter tax as it's been a full decade since my current build:
i7 3930k / Sabertooth X79 / 16GB DDR3-1866 CL8
Got a 2070 Super in there for another year or so then I'll probably pick up an RDNA4 / RTX 5000 series.
@Gibbo are you expecting to see Raptor Lake increase in price after the GBP slide?
wow. i don't think i can remember any day 1 release in the last decade that *didn't* sell out...now i've seen it

my budget was always £250-£300 for mainboard how things have changedI'm wondering the same. Like, yes, I get that the tech is fancy and PCI-E 5.0 is fast, but... really? I thought £3-350 was plenty to get you a decent premium board
I guess now that board manufacturers know they're probably not getting any more money from you until 2025+ they're damn well gonna squeeze now xDI'm wondering the same. even the turing rtx 20 series sold out at launch lolPerhaps the pricing is some sort of cunning strat to avoid a "paper launch" accusation
