Will you be purchasing the 7800X3D on the 6th?

I really am trying hard to justify getting a 7800x3d over my current 7600x. That was always the plan but looking at the 4k benchmarks I don't think I can justify £500 for a +9% improvement. Many games are just a 1-2 fps increase.

My main take away is how good a 7600x is purely for gaming at 4K with my 4090. Far better than I thought it would be, almost annoyingly so when its making me think twice about upgrading lol.

I don't practice what I preach but I think if you are struggling to justify it then it's a clear sign you don't need (but may want). Perhaps stick with what you got and let's see what the next ones are like if they stick with AM5.

Yeah good advice mate. To be honest I game at 4k on a 120fps screen and with a controller so more than likely I wouldn't notice much if any of a difference. More just the idea of having a 6 core than the actual performance which I feel is excellent. Interestingly on Tech Power Ups 7600x 4k results I was getting an extra 10fps+ than what they were saying they got on a 7600x, so possibly drivers have improved since they originally tested it last year, closing the gap even more.

I mean I'm still going to be spending likely 500 on a NV7 case and 12 D30 fans so it's not like I'm not investing lol.

I would appreciate if any of the X3D owners could run this benchmark:

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D was almost top of the chart, and the Ryzen 7 7950X was a big improvement over the Zen3 parts too.

No issues at all, it’s given the XTX and a 4090 a new lease of life. Wait till you see the SOTTR score I put up Vs the 7950X/13900K with 8000Mhz+ memory and water cooling.
@Harshell123

1080P score. :)

I'll try to give this a go when time allows. I never got round to it with the 7950X.

If you had asked me 30 minutes ago, yes. Now no.

I'll try and remember to do it when the 4090 is back in the system.

What do you score at 1080P Robert?
I did post some 7900 XTX stock results @Robert896r1 at 1080P lowest earlier in the thread if that's any good to you for now.

And here's a 720P result.

It scores differently with a 4090 vs 7900xtx on the cpu front. Mine is quite low in the mid 300's since it's 13600k. It's one the best benches for x3d in general.

mainly wanted to compare it since my old 5800x3d was around 400 and this seems closer to 430 on nvidia.

Yes if you look at my results in the SOTTR bench thread the 4090 is in the 430 range. Nvidia's driver overhead holds it back a bit or it would be higher like with the XTX runs.

Power consumption is amazing. I think in terms of performance it is what I predicted, neither side are too far ahead. I would be lying if I said I didn’t have doubts about how this 3d and non 3d/gamebar way of doing things will play out (and yes I’ve seen the videos explaining it) but it’s just early days.

Or in other words, Alder Lake and Raptor Lake are at a P4 level of inefficiency!

It’s the one thing they really need to tackle. They simply can’t compete.
While gamers mostly don't care, for their (formerly) super lucrative server market, perf/watt is or should be king.

Intel are lucky that so many server buyers are going by the mantra of "nobody ever got fired for buying IBM Intel" but that can only last so long.

The really big cloud customers (Amazon, Google, Alibaba) are deploying more and more custom ARM chips only using x86 were they have no choice. A perfect nightmare for Intel and yet Intel won't scrap shareholders dividends!

Is there a "goto" board for these chips? I'm just planning. I think I'll go for the G.Skill Triden z5 Neo @ 6000 CL30
That's what I am thinking of going for (64GB)
I can personally vouch for either one of these DIMM modules as working well with AM5 CPUs including VCache.

F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR - Single Rank 32GB, Hynix M Die good for overclocking

F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR Dual Rank 64GB Hynix A Die, great for overclocking

I have the latter and have it running at 6200Mhz C28 at 1.43v 64GB. :)
Prior to that I had the former kit and had it running at 6000Mhz C28 at 1.44v.
