Am I totally out of the loop or did that appointment come out of nowhere?

You're out of the loop i'm afraid. The media had been saying he would be appointed the new Chelsea manager for a few months now. Its not a hugely high profile appointment and the media didn't seem 100% certain but it was about.

its not a high profile appointment?????

Any which way you look at it , its surely high profile?

Just being the permanent replacement of JM makes it high profile, the fact its Chelsea, despite their current position still a major EPL club

(and there isnt even any evidence of sarcasm or similar)

By a high profile appointment I mean that Conte isn't considered one of the very best managers in the world by most people.

What are you talking about?!

Surely the notion that this is Conte's senior debut as a manager makes it 'high profile'?

Say hello to Antonio Conte, Chelsea's 'First Team Head Coach' coming in the summer:

Might have to wait 6 months after that to say hello, apparently he could be suspended for 6 months because of something to do with match fixing in 2012 :p

I think enough people consider him to be as close to the very best as he needs to be to still be 'high profile'.

He's hardly a complete unknown.

Am I misunderstanding the term 'senior debut', he managed Juve to 3 league titles on the bounce before the Italy job?

Serious mode on.

Conte did well with Juventus, iirc, they were 7th the season before he took over and he took them on an unbeaten season winning the league with aplomb. Next season he once again had a exceptional season, winning the league with a record points total. His league credentials have never been in question.

He, like Mancini, the criticism of Conte is his European record and pedigree is not good enough.

Allegri has come in and it can be argued, improved Juventus, and significantly improved them in Europe (reached the Champions League final in his first season).

I think Conte is a good manager, and I think given backing and time he will rejuvenate the Chelsea squad.

I don't think there's much point in making any assumptions on how well teams will do next season until, err, next season.

There are, literally, so many clubs that are going to be crazy busy over the summer trying to improve their squads and in some cases rebuild them. Crazy important summer.

Let be honest, the Italian league isn't exactly bristling with top class competition. Any club that spent well and benefitted from some shrewd business could have dominated the Italian league.

When you have:

Vidal, tevez, pogba, Buffon, Marchisio, chiellini, LLorente you are going to do well in the Italian league.

I don't doubt that he is a good manager but winning the Italian league at the moment isn't hard with a good team and his successor has done even better. Is Laurent Blanc a top manager? Taking PSG to easy league titles and getting to late stages of the CL?

He may be amazing but I don't think he would be that high on the list of managers most Chelsea fans would like. I may be wrong.

PSG in for Mourinho according to Sky. Can't see him going there as first choice at least after his various comments about not liking easy leagues and wanting to stay in England. Could be Mendes putting the pressure on us.

Funny we've also extended the season ticket deadline, wonder why.

I'm quite surprised that PSG haven't been in for any of the top managers moving about in the past 2-3 years. Blanc is fine for winning the domestic title but I think a blind chimp could manage that side to the title. Their issue has always been when they come up against good teams that are tactically astute. They can't simply be a collection of better players and win in these games.

You look at teams like Athletico and perhaps 3-4 of their players are top class and the rest are simply solid footballers. Their strength comes from their tactics and work rate for the most part.

I think that if we truly aren't in for Mourinho and I think that as it stands we would be stupid not to be, he would end up back at Madrid or at PSG.

We simply have to change our manager at the end of the season even if it isn't to Mourinho. As it stands:

The fans hate our football and dislike LvG
The players don't seem to play for him and don't seem to enjoy playing
Top players would be stupid to come to us while LvG is in charge for the above reasons
Commercially he has done as much damage as Moyes
We can't afford another season out of the CL.
Other teams throughout the league will be strengthening a lot so failure to significantly improve this summer could be a disaster league wise.
No one wants to be Liverpool

I thought you were all convinced Jose was a done deal! Not sure why you then think mendes needs to put pressure on :D

As for season ticket sales I remember hearing even before moyes that the waiting list had shrunk to very few at United. The last couple couple of season clearly have eroded that to nothing.

Jose to psg is a better fit.

Im not convinced Mourinho will go to PSG or even back to Madrid even if Utd dont go for him (even though it sounds like both clearly want him in one respect or another). He will be working somewhere, just not sure it will be either of those two.

The only reason the board will change managers is because the value of the club has gone down so much this season (£400m and rising) , admittedly thats probably because because of some of those other factors mentioned but thats the only one the board really care about.

Not sure what we are really worrying about , Mourinho and Neymar will arrive in the summer and everything will be sorted.................... (and Jones will be re-instated to a starting centre-half, for the first 5 minutes of the season before he injures himself)
