Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

Unless you have a head the size of thud the barbarian, inwhich case it'll only add to your woes when out and about.

I have pretty big hands and really it still needs two hands to use, but I don't find that an issue. Two handed texting is very quick as the on-screen keyboard is massive.

Bottom line is that the nexus is a better size but Samsung crippled it's specs a bit with slower processor, gpu, worse camera and no micro USB slot. Plus the note has a bigger battery.

Cheers for the input guys I will take a trip into town to have a look.

What appeals is the screen which I'm hoping will be good for browsing when the iPad is in use. I was going to buy another tablet but the note might be a good alternative and save me some money. Kills two birds with one stone.

... Kills two birds with one stone.

It does that without a doubt. My main uses are:

1) Internet browsing
2) Gaming
3) Videos
4) Ebooks
5) Texting

I can't think of any other device that does all the above better than the Note and still fits in your pocket.

I bought a phone stand for my Note recently which I have now sold, it was too heavy and too much of an inconvenience carrying something extra. I've ordered this case instead:

Oh and it can run a rather less than opptimised port of quake 2 at 640x480 @ 80fps :D shame the game is completely unplayable controls wise.

Not rooted yet - plan to root once ICS is out and rootable without adding to the counter....

You can root now without adding to the counter :)

With regard to modding do you know if there is an active community? Had a quick look on XDA and there did seem to be some ROMS. I will be coming from the original Desire and I have really enjoyed all the custom ROMS. The modding community have worked wonders and really supported the Desire.

Not as active as the Desire but there is still quite a lot going on. There is a CM9 Beta, a few other ROMs, 2-3 modified Kernals regularly updated, not a great deal on theme side of things but some. I've also read quite a few people state their intent to start developing on the Note

I really like the idea of that but the front looks pretty ugly and it seems to add quite a lot of thickness to the device.

It doesn't look that bad to me although I would have preferred an all black case. It does look like it adds some bulk, I currently have a nillkin case on so hopefully it won't be much bigger then it is now.

I will be selling my black Nillkin case, if anyone wants it let me know.

Put the XLA3 rom on the other day. Runs fantastic and its made the note as good as its going to get until ICS.

ICS is going to make this device Epic.

Had a play with one of these in the shop along with a galaxy nexus. Must say I'm absolutely gob smacked with the note. Smaller than I imagined, display is absolutely stunning. Fits fine in my pocket. Looking like my next phone.

Can't get my head around the battery on this... an hour and a half of video seems to hit it for a good 30% battery - whereas spending an hour messing around with a quake 2 port and then an hour messing around with GTA3 (both 3D games and quite demanding) used under 14% battery :S

Not a single phone shop near my work has a Note on display, O2 guys didn't even know what I was asking about! Don't matter much, I have a year and a bit on my S2 contract. Hopefully in time for the Note 2

Also i've been doing a few battery tests this week.

8+ hours overnight, screen off, wifi off, 3g off - Battery drop was 3%
8+ hours overnight, screen off, wifi on - Battery drop was 2%
7+ hours overnight, screen off, wifi on, music playing - Battery drop was 30%

Running Rocket ROM, cpu undervolted

Brightness is on default settings haven't played with that, I've used the built in video player, iplayer (using desktop useragent for full site) and iplayer via mobile site with the same results not sure on HW acceleration.

On another note (:S) ended up rooting the phone today so as to remove the battery caution sound file - can't believe the default ROM plays a sound file when the battery has completed charging when most people will be charging the phone overnight :S

Trying to decide whether to keep my Sammy 7" tablet and a SGS or sell both and get the note, really like the tablet great for reading PDF's and great for GPS, and the SGS is old but still does everything..........but I have a bonus that needs to be spent on something other than my wonderful wife and house!

Whats the GPS like and whats the screen like with ebooks and pdf's? the size isnt an issue really, the tablets awesome but cant really take it out with me on a night.
