GPS is one of the best you'll find in a phone, possibly the best. Lock times are exceptionally fast, likely helped by its ability to use GLONASS as well as GPS.

I don't do a lot of ebook or PDF reading, but I'd say the higher PPI makes text much nicer to read than on my 10" tablet. Though the larger tablet screens are probably still more comfortable for heavy reading simply due to the size.
 
I've used it on a long journey as a sat nav and did a mini review further back in this thread somewhere (using copilot). It was very good and I rated it almost as highly a my standalone tom tom. It certainly locked onto the signal much faster, had a better screen and destroyed the tom tom for route recalculation speed.

I have also now started using it as an ebook reader. I have read a couple of books while commuting using my old HTC Desire and that was uncomfortable but just about ok. The Note is very good indeed with its much larger screen. It won't be as good as a proper ereader but itcan be pt back in the pocket again easily when you get of the train. I can't see me using real books much again now. This its just to convenient.

Had a play with the GPS earlier and I'd say its scarily good - had my location indoors down to as accurate as I could tell in <10 seconds - whereas no other phone I've tried have managed to get a proper fix and most can't even find a satellite. Outdoors was almost instant lock.

So far I'm very impresed with this phone.
 
I dropped mine today without a case on. It bounced off the tarmac as I got out of the car, and slid face down for a few feet with me doing the obligatory slow motion "noooooooooooo!". I was not a happy chappie. It does have one small dent on the corner and a tiny scratch on the screen. But considering how far it slid on rough tarmac it didn't fare too badly.

The annoying thing is that I had it on my lap in the car so it didn't slide out of my pocket. But I forgot it was there. School boy error :(

I guess there's no point in getting a case for it now. I suppose I can at least just enjoy the device without worring about future scratches :)
 
My Orientation Sensor/Gyroscope has stopped working :(

It's about now I wish I hadn't bought it from Germany! Do you think I'd be better off sending it to Samsung UK?

I did.

Had a look at the returns guidance, they'll refund my postage which is good and turnaround time is 10days + delivery. All the forms are in German though, understanding them and filling them in will be a PITA. Google translate is quite poor for this.

Of course!! Besides it's not just the orientation, the gyroscope doesn't work either (e.g. google sky map). Seems to be quite a few people who have returned for this reason on XDA.


*Sigh* I'm really gutted and annoyed by this. It cost me a bloody fortune :(
 
Another pain will be getting it back to unrooted stock with all my data backed up and then wiped. Aaaand getting my old desire setup again.

Mine arrived this morning after upgrading from an HTC desire
my eyes are not as good as they used to be so this bigger screen is right up my street
really liking what I am seeing though

a question
what is a samsung account
I have a widget wanting me to sign up to the account?? presumably its to download some kind of samsung apps
