Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

After a few weeks of this phone I am completely hooked over my Nexus and SGS2. In fact I am really worried that it will be hard to get a phone this size in the future, I used my SGS2 earlier and it felt worse than my Desire did after I got the SGS2!

I'm tempted to buy this on Wednesday when my wages are in. €550 from Amazon.de in white.
I have the itch. Will I get a full day out of it?

Another quick question, I pay O2 for insurance for my desire, can I change the insurance to cover the note?

Depends on useage tbh, takes the battery a week or so to settle out the box as well.

With moderate useage and properly charging the battery for the first week I now get 2 days out the battery easily. Thats only about 10 minutes of calls, 3-4 texts, couple of hours of music, misc web browsing and 40 minutes of video tho.

I know what you mean, takes a little adjustment to be comfortable with a phone this size but its not a big problem and once you do anything else seems pathetic in comparision.

Do you not actually use it as a phone much then? If you do much texting and calling it certainly isn't all that pleasant.

I think I could personally just about get away with one but the battery life seems really poor if you do a lot of browsing. I was disappointed by that.

It's been rated longer than the Nexus so you must be even more disappointed with that.

nb. I really hope they make a successor to the Note with the latest and greatest SoC.

Yes, Android phones generally are pretty dire at browsing.

The battery difference between them and the iPhone is very apparent in day to day use.

Don't use it that much as a phone, prolly 5x ~2 minute calls over 48 hours on average I could imagine its not comfortable for long calls but 2 minutes or so I'm fine with. Texting works pretty well for me the onscreen keyboard is quite useable at that size even with one hand and using thumb to type.

Overall the browsing on a bigger screen for over 3hrs is what I'd choose.

On the Note, I'd say that's fair. Though I find browsing on the 4S with Safari to be just as good as the Galaxy S II and similar to the Nexus purely down to the way it handles text. These forums are better on the iPhone as an example, especially if you're in portrait.

You can probably simulate this on Android but my attempts to do so have failed so far.

Who need's 7hrs browse time anyhow :D

It's more the fact that, over time, it could be the difference between an extra day of not having to charge the phone (which can be useful sometimes).

I'd say depending one what your doing its possible to get far more than 3.5 hours web browsing out of it - tbh the battery life takes a bit to bed in for some reason the first time I watched anything much on iplayer it took a 40% chunk out of my battery in an hour - now its maybe 15%.

That 3.5hr browsing battery life figure was taken with the original firmware (and an older version of gingerbread), which had worse performance and battery life than subsequent updates.

In my own tests the battery drops at about 20% per hour when doing normal browsing with Dolphin HD on WiFi. So that would probably be 4-5 hours browsing if it holds up at that rate throughout.

Anyone know how to calibrate the pen? Was going to try and scribble some stuff down while in Uni but the actual point on the screen is maybe 4-5mm off where I make contact with the screen making it a nightmare to cross and dot all my words

There's no calibration, though make sure you have the Right/Left handed option set correctly.

What firmware are you on? Some people with dodgy pen accuracy reported an improvement with one of the updates if I recall correctly.

There should be a slight gap between pen tip and the actual mark drawn on the screen, but only about 1mm at the most - it's less than 1mm for me. For best results make sure you're holding it like a regular pen, not at a 90 degree angle. If it's really 4-5mm though then it sounds like something is wrong.

I would pretty much echo what nuclearwinter wrote.

However i did remember stumbling across this on my travels. I've linked to the forum post so you can read the comments, i've not tried the app myself. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466701&highlight=calibration

I dont know if this is a bug or a feature :p but I am finding it very strange when using the S-Pen, I mean everything is fine in terms of writing but sometimes the Pen can register with the Note without actually touching the screen?

Obviously this is a bit of a nightmare as I can select things.....that I havnt physically selected?

Can someone please confirm if this behaviour is normal?
