Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

Phone, case card and screen cover ordered :p

phone and case should be here on wednesday :D

now spec me apps for my first ever colour screen phone :p

It won't come with a screen protector.

As for apps, there are about 450,000 available and I'd advise just looking through them and the lists of what's popular in the Android Market on the phone itself! Ones that interest you will jump out I'm sure, and if you can't see it, you can search!

Good choice. :)

I've had the Note for around 4 months now and it is amazing. Overall it is the best 'gadget' I have ever owned, every now and again something comes along which just sets it off again. Recently it was Sky Go, so I now get all the Movies and Sports channels wherever I am, and the quality is awesome! :D

When it gets ICS which it should get very soon, it will improve even more. You will be happy with this for years, I normally get bored after a month but this still feels like a new toy to me.

yeah it's the upcoming ICS update that tipped me over the edge, looked at a note in the past but noticed it had a very old version of android and thought it might miss out on any modern features.

when is the update out btw?

How do you guys deal with it as a phone? It's not like you can easily take it to the pub in your trouser pocket. If you are wearing tighter trousers, you'll be in all sorts of bother! (serious question btw)

I imagine for the occasional phone call it isn't a problem. After all, it isn't that big.

If you are on the phone several times a day though, it would be a total pain in the arse. Same goes if you like using it one handed for texting and such.

What makes you think that? It fits in all my jeans and trouser pockets very easily. It is not the most comfortable phone to have in your pocket obviously, but it fits very easily.

As a 'phone' it isn't the most ideal device due to the size. However, as a portable games console, tablet, laptop, satnav, ereader, phone, and general all in one device, it is probably the best thing out there. Edit: Portable TV too... :)

My brother has his in his jacket/shirt pocket. It looks fine.

I don't see how it would be a pain at all to be honest, unless you have really small hands perhaps. I can't say I even notice the size when making calls, it's not like holding it to my face is challenging or anything, even in a leather case that increases the size of it. I'm almost always holding it with one hand when using it, even if using my other hand to tap. I don't see why there would be any problem making calls unless you're self conscious about people seeing you with a large phone.

Texting one handed might be risky if you do it while walking around, but I've typed one handed it with it quite often and not had any problems.

I have large hands and answering the phone and texting frequently on one was just annoying, especially when I don't think the screen provides enough real benefit unless you are on public transport a lot for example.

I'm one of the first people to tell people that 4.3" phones and such aren't an issue size wise but this one is just too big for a phone. For a portable tablet, it's ideal, and that is clearly something that many people want.

If I found myself using my phone a lot for media uses, I'd definitely get one, but as it stands it isn't worth it.

Some of the apps, etc. I put on mine:

Battery Widget
Spotify
LED Light
Root Explorer (rooted phone)
ES File Explorer (better for browsing network shares, etc.)
Voodoo OTA RooktKeeper (So I can hide that its rooted for the odd application that won't run if it detects a rooted phone)
Valence (use phone as a remote keyboard/touchpad to control a PC)
Google Sky Maps
Terminal Emulator + connectbot
Mobile Counter (to track data use)
GTA3 :D
Worms (Not the most useable on a touchscreen phone unfortunatly but fun to kill time now and again).

Well, all I can say is that my experiences are different to yours. I've been using it for over 4 months and not once had any problem making or receiving calls.

I didn't have a 'problem' with it either, it's just not as convenient as a smaller phone. I can't see how you can disagree with this really, look at the size of it. It's a phone! :p

The general opinion of the Note is that it's excellent but it's huge. It isn't just me.

Well yes, it's big, that's the main selling point. And if all you wanted to do was make phone calls then naturally there wouldn't be much point in getting one.

The disagreement is that you said for making several phone calls a day it would be "a total pain in the ass".

Compared to a smaller phone, yes. :p

Ok, but that's where we disagree :p

I went from a 3.5" iPhone and I really can't say I notice that much of a perceptible difference at making calls when it comes to comfort. Obviously the iPhone is considerably smaller, but they both fit in my hand comfortably enough and there's not all that much of a difference in weight.

I don't disagree that a smaller phone would be more convenient if you mostly care about calls, but I see that as very different to saying that the Note would be a total pain in the ass.
